Hey guys,
New at this report thing hope she’s not too boring,
Intro to me – my ride is a ZXR400 H1 –competing in F3 and Post classics JNR
I threw ZX6r fairings on it a year or 2 ago and since then have had a new sponsor come on board UNBELEIVEABLE TIMES wrapping 4 bikes in new gloss black ZX6r fairings. ( Hence the report )
We’ve done a little bit of head work to it, with a good exhaust, running 66.5 hp.
I competed at the last round of the PMCC at Taupo so had a leg up for RND 1 of Vic club. I was a bit full of C*ckyness until I saw the calibre of people on Race day.
Vic club has such a great scope of riders on really trick monsters!
I went out for quals in F3 knowing that I needed to push hard off the blocks – I have a younger brother and 2 close friends on ZXR’s – simple mission - beat all of them.
Qualifying in f3 went well – the track was cold but put in a solid effort – 1:49.5 placing me 6th NICE!! More importantly in front of all of my mates.
Posties JNR went better – pushed harder felt like there was enough grip out there dropped to 1:47.4 better – Put me 2nd !!!!!!!!!! OH yeah - Chris sales was untouchable 5 seconds a lap quicker than me.
Business time: F3 race 1- The lights are great, no more of this Epidictic fits with the green flag. Had a great start – I ALWAYS try and pass at least 1 person in the first corner it can back fire if someone goes down (which was proven in posties)
Aside from a head shake under hard braking, the bike went well – chased anything HARD with less than 4 Cylinders. White flag came out and I had been passed by the rs450f thingy, that thing could move! - “One to go, one to go” I’m yelling I my helmet. Chequered flag – its over, no one else passed me so was happy. On the warm down I saw Mark on his Rs down in turn 5, Eamon Timms down in turn 6 and Nicky and tweety down 100m further on……all were ok and only mark had to pack it up for the day so that’s was bitter sweet
Came in to huge support from friends and family watching – lapped a 147.3 massive!! And told I placed 4th – first 4 cylinder home and only a 400 at that!! HUGE!!
I wanted top 3 in posties real bad. I was place 7th on the grid as the classes were combined - another good start with the lovely lights – however after 2 senior boyz elbowed each other I thought id go round the outside of them in turn one. Would have worked fine if one of them hadn’t had hit the deck!
Off into the grass I had to go, then turn and rejoin at around 18th. Well a bit of work had to done now! I picked my way back, and after the first lap I was 14th – then the same turn, turn one a white bike decided to go up the inside and NOT BRAKE hitting me - pushing me wide again!!! AAAARGGGGHHHHHH The race I thought was over so I just aimed to pass as many people as I could – I had no idea where I was in the pack. I came in fairly unhappy – but I couldn’t complain, I somehow ended up 5th in JNR doing 1:49 in the passing frenzie. I was just lucky to finish the race!!!
After lunch and back out we go – F3 again a great start – my head swelled – I saw Jarrod Whintle and though I could get in front, I did manage to get on the outside of him and turn around him in turn 1 but into the flip flop he closed the door and then ripped it off the hinges – off he f&*Ked – well ridden mate.
The race was fairly un eventful – the shuddering under braking was not the best – but rideable – couple days after racing i measured the discs and they are under the wear limit AND WARPPED by .12'' in 2 places on both sides.
Concerned about points and pushing too hard, I did back off a little early, An SV caught up to me and passed which I kick myself for now – I finished in 5th solid but should have kept up the fight. Shown by a 1:48 .3.
Posties to go I didn’t want a repeat of race one – so kept clean and just repushed – holding my own again until the last lap. I could feel the front tyre was worn – (9 meets old now) But didn’t wanna slack off. A white and black VFR400 got me on the last lap I think – very well ridden, well done to that man and it was definitely quick. Faster than my ZXR in a straight line. I managed a 4th I believe in that race just out of top 3 – doing 1:48 as my fastest.
I didn’t compete in vicclub last year so to have such a good first round I was wrapped! I had an amazing day – I placed 4th over all in both F3 and Posties JNR. And the first 400 home in F3 is the best result I can hope for –
see peps you don’t need 75 hp – at Taupo anyway
The man I have to thank is DANIEL PLASTED he has rebuilt my engine when I blew the crank last year and since then its dosposed of bikes in a straight line of up to 70hp + and all the 450s round corners at Taupo – we still don’t believe the dyno print out to this day, it ran that good.
One Recommendation is to separate the JNR and SNR in Post classics with separate starts – completely from my point of view or course – it would leave the 1000cc boys to have their ARGY BARGY …… away from us JNRS / 400s.
Thanks to Unbelievable times, Motomart, Dan at Motorad, Marty plus all the pit helpers, Muffin all the help off the track and Dunlop for the sticky GPRA10’s and Vic Club for the great meet.
I don’t feel as confident at Manny, the HP will come into play there more and there are less of my favourite Left hander’s. But if I can stay in the top 7 ish in F3 and posties in my first season at it – I’ll be wrapped.
