Just had a look at Honda NZ's website and the price list has been updated a week ago.

Two new models took my eye - the CB1000R (naked) at $18995
CB600F Hornet at $15995

My lovely Hornet 900 is now officially listed as 'discontinued' so I guess what is in NZ is it.

I don't know about you lot but $11k for my new Hornet 900 was my limit - there is absolutely no way I'd extend to $19 for the 1000R, or even $16 for the 600!
This means that in the horrid event I bin the Hornet in the future and write it off, unless there is a dealer with one in stock I'm fucked for a new bike of similar displacement. Same if you have a SV1000 as I understand they are on the way out.

Jinkies! :gob: Ah welps, I better start saving my pennies again so I can get the rest of the Hornets :sweatdrop

Hard to believe that a 600 costs more than the 900! :pinch:

Interesting that the VTR 1000 is still listed.

From what I heard, it was being discontinued along with the Blackbird.

Man that is so expensive what a price hike......looks like the 07 new bikes will be the bargain. Can;t believe the 08 Fireblade is $3k more than its predecessor. Goodness :gob:

Not bad even if they copied the Suzuki BK a bit. Love the Single-sided Swing arm and the dash looks so cool.

Australia are getting the CB400, which looks very nice, but is near on the same price at the 900.

I was told that the Hornet/VTR/Blackbird were all discontinued - although I was still tempted by the last new Blackbird that was at Casbolts...

Strewth, that's a bit steep for a 600. I liked the look of the Hornet, but at that price the SV is looking better and better.

Ya, all of those and aircon, built-in GPS, CB radio and intercom all driven from the handle bars ... that would have to be the vehicle of choice touring the US where the raods are so long straight and boringggggg

You are 100% correct. My dad had a goldwing with a side car that he drove until he was 80. Had a gear for reverse, and all the chrome bling you could imagine, as well as automatic tire inflation. It was ideal for those loooong, looong rides.
He'd plop my step-mom in it and they'd take off for weeks at a time. When there was no passenger, we'd put a couple sacks of salt in it to help with the balance. :msn-wink:

(long list)
There is an appalling paucity of under 600cc motorcycles there. I'm glad they ditched the CBF250, as it was a silly machine, but you only have to look at the wonderful motorcycles on Honda.co.jp -- lineup here: http://www.honda.co.jp/motor-lineup/

Bluewing is not importing the CB400SS, the CB400 Super Four and Super Bol D'or, the modern 250 Hornet, the modern VTR250, a 250 and 400 cruiser, and the superb CB223S and FTR223 (which would sell like hotcakes compared to, say, the Scorpio or GN).

Not even the XR400? How about the magnificent CB750?

Why is Bluewing so bizarrely limiting their market?

klyong82
11th June 2008, 15:27
The CB400 looks hot!! I think it is down to demand and so Bluewing just brings in a handful of mainstream models. Thats my opinion

To be (slightly) fair, I did edit the list and left out the cruisers  and off roaders as they weren't part of this discussion ... but you're right about the 400's. Wait until '09 or '10 if LAMS comes in ... then they'll be there. As you know I used to be Prod/Adv Manager for Honda NZ (cars) and we wouldn't bring a pack in unless there was a market. ATM, there doesn't seem to be a market ... every Rossi wannabe goes striaght from their 250 to a litre bike it seems

Well, I'm not sure lack of demand is the full story. There's massive demand for 250s; CB223S, FTR223 would slot in very nicely. Far, far better than the shitty Brazilian CBF250 meant for the third world.

And then there's all these people buying SV650s and ER6N/Fs; those 400 fours would be a lovely alternative for those who like fours instead of twins.

I picked up a copy of the latest Two Wheels magazine today as it has a quick test on the new 1000R - they love it.

But at $19k its dam close to the price of the Speed Triple (no fangy plastic exhaust covers on that!) and also in big-bore Monster territory.

The Honda may well be the better bike but you'd think in NZ they'd try to under cut the direct opposition a lot and have a smaller dollar gap to breach for the existing Hornet owners to trade up.

Dammit I like my bikes naked.

On the bright side the value on the second hand market for tidy 900 Hornets may well rise.

Jesus you do crap on about the cbf.

The Cb223s is the biggest throwback ever but then again you seem to have a fetish for spokes and five gears. Shame it doesn't have a kick starter then. :zzzz:

You go on about the cbf having bugger all power but the cb223s has even less.:scooter:

i really like the new 600 hornet but i think is so expensive cos its the uk made bike?? still for that kind of coin you have a street triple and i know which one id rather buy.

If it was the same price as the 900 i would actually consider it as my next bike, its like the suzuki gsr600, which is 1k more than the 900, silly really cos it keeps people like me who WANT to progres through the bike sizes out of them and tempted to go big to soon purely cos of the bang for ya buck, not that there is anything wrong with going from a 250 to a thou, just wish the 600's were a little cheaper like the er6n.

It seems the only thing the cb900 and cb1000r share is the Hornet name.

The 1000r is a modern naked litre bike with some very tasty bits, like single sided swing arm, radial brakes and a lastest model retuned sports engine, this has to be at a premium over last cenuries technology used in the cb900.

It looks that it would be very compeditive against the likes of Speed Triple, Monsters, Super Duke and Tuono.

From what I have read Honda are deliberately NOT naming the 1000 a Hornet - thus the 'R' spec. This one is racier, harder with a euro designed edge (bla bla). Not as soft as the CB900.

Designed to complete directly with the earlier mentioned bikes (triple etc).

Thus price wise it is kind of understandable - its not a budget build - It just pisses me that it just leaves a huge gap for a good old reasonably priced naked.

Maybe that 1000cc CB naked retro will arrive in 09 keenly priced.

The NZD is going down the toilet. You're going to see price rises across the board during the next 12 months.

I'm a Honda nut but after seeing those prices I'm seriously considering a Katana 750 as my next bike. Power/torque to weight similar to the 600 Hornet for only 10 thou.

(I'm on the GN now largely because of price at the time)

Which means it will be almost as fast, much more reliable and have much better resale.:bleh:

It also means it will be much less desireable.
