The Mercer 2008 Quality of Living survey ranked Auckland fifth and Wellington 13th in a list of 215 cities worldwide.

Herald article (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/1/story.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10515623).

Works for me.

Don't forget we have most of NZ's politicians here, including Auckland's, so I'm surprised we even managed to qualify for a lifestyle rating.

Joking aside I love Wellington and considering the places in the world, 13th is still shit hot...I love Auckland because being from London it is still quiet and we are so close to so many wonderful places

Fark - who burnt your toast tubby??

No, you didn't get it - the idea was that you actually remove yourself from the premises, then quietly expire.

It's all about Auckland rating higher in the next survey due to the increased average IQ, y'know. One strives to make the world a better place.

Auckland....Wellington..........Meh! I'd rather live in Taihape or Nelson, but the hard reality is, the money and my son's father are in Auckland.

I do often feel envious of all the quality art shows that go on in Wellie though. Some of the expos going on there would be fantastic up here.

I'd move back to Wellington in a flash if it weren't for the promotion I received, in fact, I think we will be moving back in a year or two.

Wellington is far superior.

Damn I wouldn't. Living down there for 30 odd years is enough for me thanks. I'm now a happy jaffa and wear the badge proudly :bleh:

The 'Quality of Living index', brought to you by Mercer.

We can read at Mercer's homepage:

"Mercer is the global leader for trusted HR and related financial advice, products and services. In our work with clients, we make a positive impact on the world every day. We do this by enhancing the financial and retirement security, health, productivity and employment relationships of the global workforce."

Also:

"In 1975, Mercer became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. In 2002, we changed our corporate name to Mercer Human Resource Consulting. The company became Mercer in 2007.

What do we know about Marsh & McLennan? Here are a few lines from Wikipedia:

Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (MMC) is a US-based global professional services and insurance brokerage firm. In 2007, it had over 57,000 employees and annual revenues of $12.069 billion."

A bit further down:

"On September 11, 2001 Marsh established a crisis consulting practice specializing in terrorism, with Ambassador L. Paul Bremer as Chairman and Andrew R. Daniels as President and COO. Marsh also announced a partnership with Control Risks Group to provide political risk assessment."

Who is this Bremer? Another wikipedia article:

Lewis Paul Bremer III (born September 30, 1941), known as Paul Bremer and also nicknamed Jerry Bremer, was named Director of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance for post-war Iraq following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, replacing Jay Garner on May 6, 2003.

It gets better:

During Bremer's stay in Iraq, the Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden allegedly placed a bounty of 10,000 grams of gold on Bremer, the equivalent of $125,000 US at the time.
Bremer is awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, December 14, 2004

The 'Quality of Living index' report ends:

"The war-torn Iraqi capital of Baghdad [scored] the lowest."

And who scored highest... Switzerland:

"New York-based Marsh & McLennan Companies has named Mathis Cabiallavetta as vice chair. Mr. Cabiallavetta, who has served on M&M's International Advisory Board since 1993, will work to advance the strategic development of the company's global activities. He is the former chairman of the board of directors of Union Bank of Switzerland."

"Mr. Cabiallavetta is Chairman of Marsh & McLennan Companies and a member of MMC International's Advisory Board. Prior to joining MMC in 1999, Mr. Cabiallavetta was Chairman of the Board of Union Bank of Switzerland, which became UBS AG"

Mathis Cabiallavetta (1945 - ) has been the director of Altria since: 2002 (previously named Philip Morris Companies Inc.),

UBS AG is a diversified global financial services company, with its main headquarters in Basel & Zürich, Switzerland. It is the world's largest manager of private wealth assets, "the world's biggest manager of other people's money"

You know, there's something ironic about rating one city higher than another due to the amount of planes there are available to take you as far as possible away from it.

Auckland - you're welcome to it. Would you like the politicians too while you'r eat it?
