Seams there been a recall stateside, that has moved to the UK also

Seams? or seems? or do you actually mean like...seam welding?

At least kawasaki are sorting the issue, unlike suzuki with the gsxr and doing nothing whatsoever about it.

I hope Kawasaki NZ are going to follow up on this as well!

Kawasaki NZ didn't waste any time advising me by letter of the recall for the KLR muffler bolt issue (muffler bolts come out, muffler falls into the wheel, fall down go boom). The USA riders were bleating like sheep on the various forums about this but they're naturally whiners over there. I just checked the bolts myself (and they were tight)
The 1400 frame thing sounds a little more serious

Google "KLR muffler bolt recall"
NHTSA Recall No. 07V486000
Kawasaki KLR650
Model Years: 2002-08
Number of units involved: 33,365
Problem: On certain motorcycles, insufficient tightening of the muffler mounting bolts could allow the bolts to loosen. If the bolts loosen completely, it is possible for the muffler to separate from the motorcycle and create the potential of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will tighten the two muffler mounting bolts to the proper torque.

:nono: No charge for the check :niceone:

Just take your bike into your local Kawasaki dealer, they'll do the check and you'll get the bike back. Just means you'll be without your bike a for a day or two :niceone:

What they do is check what torque is required to undo the two mounting bolts, do a thorough check for any signs of fracture, re-torque the bolts to the specified setting then do a service notice and send that to Kawasaki NZ to verify that your bike has had the check done.

Expensive for Kawasaki if there is the misfortune of finding damaged frames as it's complete disassemble and a replacement of the main frame.
