Come on somebody!!!! there must be somebody who wants to go for a dirt ride.
I could bring 1 extra bike along if any tarmac lads/ ladies wanna try a go on the dirt or anybody else would be welcome to come out.

Good idea, but I have no dirt bike and no time...... I would like to give it a try, but I doubt I can make this event...

My dirt bike plans are on hold at the moment, the XT is only able to do easy tracks,it wouldn't be any fun at any of the bike parks. It's set up for gravel roads - I'd be happy to do a gravel road day....

Ditto here, but again not a great deal of time....

Tho I'd probably be slow judging by how the guy on the KTM950 blew me into the weeds on the Kaipara Flats Rd

Yeah Dan, somebloody roman sandel wearing, maori bone carving wearing, hand knitted jersey wearing do gooding greeny fuck heads have started a petition to get the new bike park canned, Gregs already spent $10k on developing and machine hire, fencing, and now this, however Carter Holt are right behind it, so I think it will go ahead. At some stage !

Any way, I would be keen on Thunder Valley, let me know what you decide.

Yea bloody greeneys! Thundercross Valley I think will be the venue seeing as woodhill is in trouble. Would you be able to bring a bike or two also in case the tarmac lovers wanna have a go? We have one spare bike a DT230 that I hope we will bring. I will try and configure a date. maybe the 30th of January. but not confirmed yet.

Motu

Is there anywhere a bit tricky to ride there that we could use for trials?,if so I'll bring my old TLR200 down so some of you can try out a trials bike.

jrandom
5th January 2005, 09:19
Ahem.

Mrs Random decided earlier this week that she wants us to get a pair of dirt bikes.

:gob:

Of course, the shiny green KDX200s I see already in my mind's eye will not be affordable for some time.

If this event goes down, and any KBers are feeling generous in spirit enough to loan Mrs Random some sort of helmet that might fit her and give her a wee go up at Woodhill or somewhere on a beat-up old offroad 'sickle of some sort to get her motorcycling tastebuds a-tinglin' (she's never ridden a non-push-bike, but she's very coordinated and quite athletic, and I can give her some parking-lot control lessons on the Zeal) we'd be eternally in your debt.

And don't worry, I'm not asking for anyone to test their bike's suspension and their own fears of having it wrapped around a tree by letting *me* on it.

In the meantime, I'll just be off in the corner, over there -----> trying to recover from the shock.

Wellyman
6th January 2005, 07:30
I have a few old helmets next time i go down to the shed I will have a look. KDX's are cool bikes man you can buy a second hand one fairly cheap and the cost bugger all to keep going. hope to see you at the ride. I'm hoping to head out to thundercross valley bike park this weekend for a scouting look so I will bring back a report on the place.
Cheers.

DATE STILL TO BE CONFIRMED

My RM is actually still up north, but it'll be here in a couple of weeks. So I'll be keen, provided I have my bike...

6th January 2005, 13:36
Yeah hopefully i can buy myself a kdx200 in the next month or 2. Think there are some decent trails around chch to go on. I'm arranging my timetable so i will have afternoons free for most of the year, lol.

Ahem.

Mrs Random decided earlier this week that she wants us to get a pair of dirt bikes.Shockin', dat.
A couple of days ago, the vifferbabe also mentioned getting her own bike.
I talked her out of it.

I've been thinking about going dirt riding for a while. I used to have a dirt bike, many years ago when I still had hair, and also did quite a bit of boogeying around off-road when I was a professional sheep-shagger and work was light (I'd just jump on the trusty-crusty ole XL125S and go for a ride round the farm). Thems was the daze.

Dunno that my crusty-rusty body'd be up to it nowadays, but I reckon I'd still have the skills (such as they were).....

hey Dan, given how shitty the weather is atm, might pay to make woodhill as a back up plan, as you well know rain will not effect woodhill sand, But Thunder Valley can very techinical in the wet.

Yeah that’s a funny one, most of my girlfriends when I was younger rode bikes & that was cool, but really I feel that to be any good you have to have a bike as your primary transport for a while. As a purely hobby bike they will flounder for ages so it means all your rides will be spoilt waiting around for them rather than riding at your own pace. Worse you worry about them hurting themselves esp. on the road. I used to ride with an eye almost constantly in the rear view mirror.

So it sounds selfish, my girl wanted to learn how to ride so I arranged a bike she could ride in a field but she chickened out as she didn’t want people esp. me to laugh at her. This made me reassess things so I won’t be offering to teach again unless she really gets keen enough to grow some confidence.

Oh sorry :Offtopic:
Anyone going to the Johnsonville ride in Wgtn this weekend?

Right i went out riding yesterday at Thundercross Valley. The track was fairly dry with a few mud bogs here and no big uphills but plenty of downhills that variy in diffculty. Awsome ride and the B loop is very rideable so I think that makes it the venue now the date is again still to be chosen.

ok see my winding a stator thread and you will relise that the 30th will prob be the better date for me (3000 odd turns around and around and around and around.......) then if I am still sane I would be keen as to get back out there, though i dont fit my 15$$ helmet I bought when i got the bike so if anyone has a large helmet lying around would be good!
