Went to buy a new lightbulb for the bike after it blew yesterday somewhere out of Hamilton.... and off I went to Henderson Bikes.... hmmm not open.... strange that I thought.. oh well off to see Mike at Mt Eden's.... two bikes and a trike sitting out front... hmmm Mike's aint open... so chatted with the riders of the said bikes... another dude came along wanting a tyre... I directed him to Kerry's. It was at this point I found out that today is a public holiday... well doh... :bash: someone forgot to tell me....lol.... :bash: so I then took them over to where Motomail was.... yay motomail was open.... yep I got a replacement lightbulb.....
But hey you bike shop owners you lost out on a sale... cos these dudes were up from down the line looking to buy a bike... and they had been to heaps of bike shops.. As to whether the other guy got a tyre or not, he may be still out there in the car still looking... looked like a motocross tyre.
And it seemed there was many a bike cruising past the bike shops today...
So its still early.... maybe I should go for a wee ride.......but where ?

crashe,
I think the bulb u need is a "H4" type bulb. You can find them an any automotive shop... E.g Repco (RIP Off) or Super Cheappie auto.

How old are you people? - it's always been this way...Xmas and New Year fell on the weekend,so the public holidays are carried over into the week.Get a life and enjoy it,don't moan that some poor buggers having a day off instead of going to work!
My work number is transfered to my mobile after hours,I've been having calls every day since Boxing Day,some one even rang wanting a WoF on New Years Day!! Funny, but they all have a foreign accent, and only one call has been a real emergency. When I first started in business I used to work over the Xmas break, chuckling to myself about all the work everyone else was missing out on,then I had a look at who my customers of that period were, all the dramas about not getting parts - then thought...''get a life!!''.Dec25 to Jan9,these are my ONLY holidays all year.

Well it was fasinating sitting there, people and car watching....lol
The same cars going up and down the road so many times, trying to get attention....and the girls in their cars, trying to be hoons.... it was like what ya see in Queen St without the night-time life.... Not so many young kids in cars but still the boys trying to show off their wheels...
I was quite surprised how busy it was..... considering it wasnt a hot sunny day. At the ice cream shop the customers were waiting in line right up the street. The bars were full, and a few were drinking in the park... the more they drunk the more louder they became.... so many out on their in-line skates and trying out their new pushbikes...
It was just nice to sit and watch the world go by... :doobey:
A couple of bikes did cruise on by.... and a number of scooters were out and about.

I asked about that at Motomail..... and they reckoned that garages wouldn't have them in their range of stock.... but nevertheless I shall be checking it thou.... and the prices....
The Standard one cost me $12 around November... so I don't know why it blew out so quick.... this one cost me $25 cos its the brighter light, plus they didnt have the standard light in. They did have the coloured light in but I prefer the white light.
But cos I need it for night time I had to buy it there and then.

Thats the way. My other stepson had a radiator hose go yesterday so I tried the gasso's for a generic piece of suitable hose. Everyone had a selection of of at least a half dozen H4 lamps. No hose but.

Haha, those guys are great. When I go down the main street, if a boy racer is coming toward me, I either shake my head at them or pull in the clutch and rev to 14000rpm (don't often do that that one), and you can see them get pissed and the end up roaring off

Right. And maybe they should be open every single day of the week. And 24 hours too, while we're at it.
Why weren't you at work today?

Fairy-nuff. But let them poor bastards at the shops have a couple of days now and then. Have you seen how hard some of them poor, under paid, extremely good looking guys work?!
And about that disability thing, foot. from mouth? Yeah, I'm removing it now....

ermm bring it back. Bulb should not blow in 2 months. I have had bad runs with some Navia ones in my car, all their Artic blue (blew!) range always burns out. Go to Auto Stop, they usually only do trade. Ask nicely for some philips H4 bulb, they will have some usual ones to some extra bright ones and they do the job so far and haven't blew yet.
Oh and motomail was :bs: ing you when they say garages won't have them. H4 is one of the most common head light bulbs for cages.

I sometimes buy H4 bulbs from Asians who pedal them door to door at garages - $10 for a pack of 20,of those 2 or 3 may fail early.Have a look at the brand on the metal base on the bulb of the expensive 'name brand',most likely it won't be the brand on the packet - but that's not to say they are low quality, the Hella may actualy be a Stanely or Phillips bulb...they are just bought in bulk and repackaged.A prematuraly failing bulb is more likely the result of problems in the system - poor earths and overcharging being most common, with bikes vibration is a big killer of bulbs, more often tail lights - it's a frequency thing....shaking of the tail. Some cars, particualy Hondas always have a stop bulb out - for these I fit a Wurth bulb, expensive, but they say they won't blow, and they don't.Walk up to a 1978 Mercedes and pull out all the tail bulbs...they will still be the original German bulbs - so yeah, quality does count.

Apart from Christmas Day,when you`ll still find filling stations open, about 60% of British shops are open on public holidays,I had a "plumbing emergency" and got the tools and bits I needed no problem. If you work public holidays here it`s double time so depends on your priorities I guess,my place had me and a couple of other guys on notice that they might need us at 2a.m. boxing day for 4 hours, pain in the arse but for 16 hours pay and a day off in lieu I was almost hoping for the phonecall.
When I started riding Hondas always used Stanley bulbs and they were as good as anything else.I ride all year round and high-mileage,to be honest I cant remember the last time I had a bulb blow,or a cable snap come to that, both used to be fairly common.

Ok I went up to my local BP garage today... tis all new and rebuilt.... so figured it would be well kitted out... I checked out the bulbs... and not a bulb there for bikes at all... only had bulbs for cars.. (brake, reversing and indicator lights etc).... so next I will and check out repco tomorrow...
May check out other garages - shell, mobil etc.... out of curiosity...
My local BP guy reckons that not many garages would have bike light bulbs....
Oh yeah I just came home in the dark... and the brighter light is sure brighter.... see a lot more of the road as well..
