View Full Version : This is why I can't have nice things

To make matters worse, the mouse jumped as a clicked so I ended up closing the window with all my writing on it... so I'll try write this up again:

Got out of work experience and was really happy. Just painted up some of an HQ wagon in bright green and it was looking great, and my girlfriend would be at my place shortly after I got back home. Walk out to the road and find my bike in this state...

Not quite sure what did this. It fell over it's stand so I assume a car hit it. The dent's are obviously from the curb. The wind wasn't intense yesterday and a teenager that thinks of bikes as tall poppies would've pushed it over the other way, the easier way. I found the bike upright, don't know if it was the culprit or a passer by that picked it up. There was no note left on it.

There is no obvious damage on the other side, so it must've been nudged like a car slowly backing into it. But I parked in between two driveways so there's a large gap between my bike and other parked cars, so I would've thought they'd have at least seen it in their mirrors or not have backed out so far. What's more, they would've had to have been in the opposite direction to that side of the road. I'm left with thinking this was done maliciously. But I'm a spiteful person, I would think that.

The bike's tail had been painted up recently by me. The crack in the rear was a previous crack I had spent a fair bit of time repairing to look brilliant again, but obviously couldn't handle smacking into a curb. The tank was near perfect, no bog on it at all, only a slight dent that could've been popped out easily. The rest of the bike was due for some repairs, but I had polished it up nicely. I'm absolutely crushed...

I like how the before shots are in the sunshine, and the after shots are dark and wet. And as you can see, the windscreen was previous damage... And if anyone says 'HTFU', I will kill you.

Aww dude that's really shit. Had the same thing happen to me, except I caught the bastard before he drove off. Is it really that hard to look before you move your car?

Good luck with everything.

EEEk, sorry to hear about it man, i feel your pain. Came out from work to see the Prila on it's side, but it had been blown over in the wind by the looks of it... You just can't beat that initial missing of the heartbeat, followed by stomach turning inside out... HTFU it's only plastic and metal ;) it'll buff right out...

Indeed. Just I did spend quite a bit of time making the tail nice and shiney, show off what I'm able to do. I was very proud of it.

Cost isn't so much of a problem since I can fix it myself. Just all that time spent on it is now wasted and more time will be wasted if I choose to fix it.

Not giving up on life, no worries.

I if I choose to fix it.

Well my dying wish is that you do indeed put the effort in to fix it, my ZXR 400 used to fall apart every 2 weeks and the labour of love just made me enjoy it more, and should you heed my request, i'll die a happy man knowing that i'm lookin into the eyes of the man killing me that i'm making him just slightly happier with my last request... Errrrr... yeah

Really you just want me kept occupied.

It's been a constant restoration project since I got it. It wouldn't have been so bad if it was a planned project, but I needed and still need reliable transport which I thought a Honda VFR was going to be.

Damn... Foiled again...

I felt exactly the same with the zxr, the constant love hate relationship, always wanting something reliable etc... I saved for 7 years and bought the bike I wanted... til then i skint knucles, snapped more bolts than i care to mention, replaced too many fork seals, cylinder head gaskets, engines (I blew one up arg, so restored another), brakes ... ooooo don't start me on them bloody brakes and couple all of that with all year riding (well unless it was icing over) and constanly fighting salt corrosion... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh... but i'm here no, with a bike i love and have minimal maintenance to do etc... Keep the bike, fight to get it as reliable as you can and squirrel what you can in to a fund that will eventually allow you to get the bike you really want NEW... Or ignore all of the above and search for that which is exceptionally hard to find that isn't new...

Maybe your bike got so ashamed by all the verbal abuse you post about it and decided to commit Hara-Kiri.

I take my my time in choosing a parking spot now. You can't expect cage drivers to see a stationary bike if they can't see it with a rider and lights.

Few months ago I parked outside the bank so I could keep an eye on it. White van man walks right pass my bike... gets in and reverses it to it, I run out yelling and he stops.

Luckily it was parked almost length ways and it moved instead of falling over and getting crushed under the van. Result paint off the rim, popped fairing and scraped fork.

My bike fell over in a paddock and cracked the fairing. It's still getting repaired. I was gutted at the time too and kept getting distracted while out on the bike by all the red duct tape holding the crack shut.

I'll be a lot happier when it's all fixed.

Dude that sucks. I had that done to my bike outside wellington zoo last summer. Even thought my ride isn't an expensive flash machine I still love it and seeing it damaged aint fun.

Death to those who do that shit!

The tank was the previous paintwork that had just been glossed up. Still took a bit of work with a buffer. The tail did look nicer in the flesh since I had sanded out any orange peel in the paint.

I'll ride into tech tomorrow on it, despite having to go in the dark without lights or front brakes. See if the Panelbeating tutor can fix the tank and the Motorcycle tutor can fix everything else. I'll sort out the rest of the bodywork and the tank when it has been fixed up. And I'll try making my own windscreen.

Don't want to loose the no claims bonus. Especially since the insurance company is already raping me since of all the other teenagers being boy racer fuckwits. Plus I don't think when you get to choose your repairer you can choose yourself.
