Okoroire is cool, but its not a "supervised" license, so not a good place to visit if you are taking your daughter for a ride. Yeah, I got told.

sikpuppy
15th June 2008, 08:12
Oh the Puhoi, how I love thee...now the Speights one I might actually try out today. Not on my bike, but with some friends. The Kentish I am keen to trip out to, and the others...I think I'll need to do a road trip of extreme proportions one day soon...how exciting! And the company is important of course, we like meeting up with like-minded individuals...and people with bikes!! :Punk:

puhoi brings back some good memories for me....

Me too - that lovely sloping grassy bit out the front. One of my favourite things to do after a ride is lie on the grass and look at the sky. Oh, some not so good memories too - I remember the grumpy old guy who used to run it coming over and pouring a bucket of water on the open fire about 4pm on a Sunday - completely unexpected and unannounced. We had obviously outstayed our welcome....:(

Still a grumpy shit in there, although he's a bit younger. You should've seen the look on his face when I tried to use a VISA card! Every surly bartender stereotype personified.

It's a nice spot, though. They could just use some of the staff from the pub at Raglan.

this reminds me of me 3 1/2 year old about a month ago. I was painting the outsideof the house. He lying on the back lawn looking at the sky(clear blue day). He starts screaming Dad Dad. I think somehing must of bitten him or stung him by the ways he holering.I ask him what the problem is and he says.

i like the way everyone sits out the front, and watches as other bikes pull in - no pressure, but make sure you don't drop it in the pea metal. was up there during the week and a couple of gxxrrrrs (maybe one was a cbrrrrr600) went past coming off the bridge - absolutely caning it - with what sounded like nasty GP exhausts......fantastic :)

Too many good pubs nation wide.
Te Kaha before the fire was a good stop.
As Hitch mentioned, the Avoca has a good feel about it. Awakino, Matawai, Naseby, The Red used to be the place after cemetery circuit.
Awahuri, hell, way too many.........

Lol one time there was about 50 bikes there and a R1 came hooning down the hill and went wide on the corner to the bridge and smacked a car... wasn't the excitement we wanted to see....

The Whitford Tavern (sp?) just by the roundabout is a nice stop but it's too close to either your destination or departure poitn to be a tourers pub

For those in the Manawatu the Clydesdale Museum Cafe on the back road of Levin is brilliant but then again, it's almost home or just after you left to be a destination in itself

In the Wairarapa how could we not mention the Tin Hut since we go there just about every Wednesday night ride. Lake Ferry is a great ride even if it's not one of the great pubs.

That good honest tucker had a few of my mate shitting through the eye of a needle for days after a visit there a couple of years ago.

The place was tired, rundown and dirty so not really surprising.

Never been back since.

Maybe it's improved recently.

And Yes it is a biker friendly country pub although I would no describe it as a relaxing place.

But thats just my opinion.
