Having a single cylinder motorcycle with some 600-700 cc is pushing it. Above that, twins are much easier. Just think about vibrations... So imagine what it would be like to have a motorcycle with double that capacity, on a single!!!

That's exactly what Franz Langer has. Franz, a German engineer, is retired, so he has a lot of time on his hands. He already had his name in the Guinness record books for having the biggest single engine motorcycle; in this case a 1,000 cc engine.

NSU Bison 2000 engine
But he wanted bigger, much bigger! On top of that, his record got broken by a 1.5 liter single, and he couldn't have that.

Franz took an old NSU Konsul and replaced the original 500 cc engine with an airplane single-cylinder engine. The airplane's 1440 cc engine was still not enough... so he enlarged it to 2,000 cc!

The original piston was way to heavy, with its 3 kilograms, so he made a new one, weighing "only" 1.6 Kgs.

After several modification, his motorcycle is ready to go, except..... there's no starter.

Yes, Franz says you can kick start it, but that would probably only apply to Arnold Schwarzenegger on steroids. His recommendation is to push start the bike.

What a ride that must be. His specially produced exhaust gives a real sound, while I must presume the vibrations must be enormous. Imagine what his torque must be...

Trevor Hall in Te Awamutu was toying with the idea of building a single, using a cylinder from a Lycoming O-320 aircraft engine (320 cubic inch horizontally opposed four cylinder engine, so one pot = 80 cubic inches)

While he's "toying with the idea" this guy has done it! Know who gets my kudos. :bleh:

Probably been distracted by the recent court case he lost for trying to rip off a fellow KB'er :bash:
