Hey thinking of chucking in my 4 wheel turbo and going all out with a 250cc 2 wheeler road bike :D I'm around 6 foot weigh about 65kg and 17 years old heres what im after. So far i like the look of the honda VTR/CBR/CBF

I need a bike that sits good at 100 kmh as i travel about long distnce of 450km a week

cheap on gas!

Something with a bit of balls not super fast but not a snail either

my budget is between 2-4k just for the bike

I want a good quality bike eg a honda or something that wont give me any problems.I have spent enough money on my car!

yea il let you know if i think of anythink else

cheers

Welcome aboard!

My first (well my second) bike was a 250 CBR RR. It was a great bike and I loved it... easy on the gas and a good riding position - but then I am not 6ft tall!!:dodge:

Theres some real gold buried deep beneath the layer of tripe on these forums - have fun sifting out the useful bits :2thumbsup :baby:

Start with a 1000cc sportsbike. You'll be fine. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise! ;)
The yanks can learn on a 1000.......

Rule of thumb is that singles give you plodding, low-down power delivery and the more cylinders you add the higher they have to rev to get any performance. For beginner riders, a 4 stroke 250 V-twin (Spada/VTR, Hyobag...) is IMO the best compromise with useful power/performance and friendly delivery.

The only way to tell is to sit on a few. The Hyosung is noted as suiting larger riders.

I wouldn't worry - 6ft is pretty common, and as for power; weight is what counts there, and you're a bloody feather weight! :-) I'm around 110-112kgs, and my GSX-250 goes just fine (for now), up any hill I've tried so far, and doddles along at 100k no worries. :2thumbsup
Have fun looking around. Sit on as many as you can get your hands on.

Welcome, please don't feed the maniacs and keep your elbows in at all times. Spada or GSX250 are great bikes. I ride the older VTZ and they are a honey if you can get a good one. Heard good things from tall riders about hornet 250's as well. Took one for a rip in christchurch and it was bloody entertaining.

My first bike was a Suzuki FXR 150, Im 5'11 and weigh the same, (yeah Im anorexic!) and I can squeeze 145kph out of it, of course thats on a windless day on a flat road, I think any 250 would struggle up hills and into head winds, eg down to 80-90kph, and thats with a light person on it. You can probably get a newish FXR for $2000, mine was $3000 4 years ago
