Anyone use them? Any good?
Have been a National Bank customer for 15 years (i.e. since I was 10 :2thumbsup) and am getting pretty fed up with them...
No, I am not about to base my choice of bank solely on the opinion of KBers, jut interested if anyone has had any bad experiences with them. :calm:

Yep.. I'm a "Foundation Customer".. I have been with them since they were handing out surveys to see what customers were looking for in a bank, way before they opened! even got a special certificate..
I've found them very good! Fees are low! credit card interest rate is 12.9% (last time I looked) & I think if you have a mortgage with them you don't get fees... (but don't quote me on that one!!) ;)
Ring 0800 11 33 55 & get them to send you out an info pack that you can have a good read through! :niceone: Better to get the correct facts & figures from them!!

Yea, already have an appointment booked, just wanted to hear some real experiences before I go in and have them "sell" the bank to me

Yes, I've been expecting as much. I'm not the greatest at saving, so I usually borrow for my toys, and pay it off over 6-12 months max to avoid paying too much Interest. National's personal loans are up to 17.95%, my "Low Interest Visa" now has similar Interest to most other banks normal Visa's, and when I got the card, it was on the advise of my bank consultant who suggested I combine my OD and CC into one Low Interest card to save money... sounds great I said!
To bad she stuffed up, and was shown as "Debt consolidation" against my credit rating  I got it reversed, but have been rather unhappy with them since then.
-Edit-
Seems I'm not the only one who got shafted by the black stallion :buggerd:

I've been with kiwibank for about the last 5 odd years I guess? I dunno. Either way, a while. Stunning. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I'm quite pleased with Kiwibank. Seems to be run fairly competently and not too much fuzz. E.g. they were willing to let us open an account before we had gotten all of our immigration permits sorted out - some of the other places they required a permit of at least 6 months...

Nothing annoys me more than people who whinge about the high foreign investment in NZ and don't bank with kiwibank.
I dont do either so can't comment.
but I'm glad all my money wasn't in Bancus de Argintena a few years ago either.....

only thing that can be a hassle is that as they're not a dedicated bank you wait behind postshop customers and if you want to do anything more than everyday banking you need to make an appointment.

No and nope. Very limited service offering and you get stuck in post office queues. At least at NB you can play playstation.

Kiwibank are OK. I use them solely for online/electronic transactions. No bad experiences to speak of. No fees too.

They are open Sat mornings and no fees if you have a mortgage with them. Was enough to make me change. From westpac on principle.

Totally concur with this sentiment.
When we told them we were leaving, taking our not insubstantial mortgage (to go to Kiwibank, who have been very, very good...), they were completely indifferent. Now, I don't expect banks to :crybaby: about losing my business, but the apathy was surprising.

 Yep I'm with Kiwibank. Have been for 20 months. I had been with them for 6 months and I needed a mortgage. I had no real savings history with them and I got the mortgage no sweat. Paid it off early and incured a small ($100.00 I think) early repayment fee. I have a fair chunk of change invested with them at a very good rate. Run an ON CALL account for my toys and get over 8% on it. :niceone:
I would have to say it's generally very good all round with KIWIBANK. best part is the lack of bank fee's. Used to be with westpac and they wacked them on left right and center. "PRICKS" needless to say I didn't stay with them:headbang:

thats the major reason (apart from business/guarantee issues) that I havent gone there for my personal banking needs.
I am just not interested in standing in a queue behind some mouth breather who wants to send a tardme parcel to outer buttfuckistan but only wants to spend $3.50 because "thats all the buyer said it would cost and so thats what they've given me"
the low fees, NZ owned aspects really do appeal. even if it was set up by Jimanderton.

Well I go into the bank maybe twice a year so am sure I can put up the que. Rest of the time I do everything online.
Main thing that appeals to me is their low (or no) fee's and superior Interest rates.
I also have an appointment with ASB, but so far Kiwibank looks like the one to go for. Definitely ditching National.

i am with ASB ... been with them for years .. I really like the on-line features .. which means I go to the bank maybe three or four times a year to bank cheques.

The biggest problem with KiwiBank is that you look like a cheap prick whenever you hand over your Eftpos card.

I am a foundation member with Kiwibank for by business account, and more recently I have moved out all personal banking from ANZ to Kiwibank also. I am blown away by the level of friendly and helpfulservice.

I have only been to the bank once or twice - I mostly deal with online/electronic banking.
After being with ANZ and having so many hassles (with my own effing money!!) the Kiwibank is like a very pleasant walk in the park.

Don't know how that works for you. I have no problem handing over my card in fact I'm kinda proud to be supporting a true KIWI bank rather than a kiwi branch of an aussie bank. was with the BNZ years ago and they sold out to Australia the service went to shit and they just didn't care anymore.

My story is similar to Her B4, I have been with Kiwibank from day 1 also, and came over from ANZ...I have no trouble with them or their queues, as most of my banking is done online. My wife also is with Kiwibank now, and soon we will swap our mortgage over to Kiwibank. The only reason of the Mortgage with National is her bro-in-law is a loans manager with them.

A.S.B. gets my "Thumbs Up" and after 10 years of being with them i still find their service both friendly and helpful. They treat you like a person and not just a number unlike some of the others. As for Kiwibank, i've never dealt with them but because of their affiliation with the Government i would'nt touch them with a barge pole.

Been with Kiwibank for 5 years now,so far so good.
Sorry, tried to join Kiwibank in a patriotic whim. But getting thru the book shop and having to join a line for postage, bill paying, Trademe parcels etc... to find it was run by non european immigrants, put me off . Still with National Bank, but am getting sick of my personal banker who is a non european immigrant, who asks me to repeat everything as she doesn't understand me. Ferk and all Im asking her is to repeat what she said cos I couldnt understand. Presently opening an internet bank account with Westpac seem pretty good so far. TSB is where I should probably be looking.
