Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a Yamaha Scorpio (please, save the comments for the bike choice for another thread ), and was wondering if anyone has fitted a Givi (or any other brand) top box to it? I had a ask around at a couple Yamaha dealers in Auckland and also motomail, and they said they couldn't find anything that fits (I'm guessing they don't have the right bracket for it or something?)... obviously I can just use a backpack, as I don't have a problem with storing my bike gear where I work, but would be nice to be able to leave my gears on the bike from time to time :)

Photos or links would be much appreciated, thanks!!

they should be able to convert a bracket to fit. my virago has a converted bracket, as the one they ordered didnt fit right.

How much did you pay to get that done? Want a rough idea of what I'm looking at so I don't risk getting ripped off by the dealer... thanks!

Just got a quote from Red Baron:

You will require a carrier assembly to mount a top box. Cost of this is $265.00. A top box to fit would vary depending on what size you require. Prices vary from $99.00 upwards.

Is it just me or does that sound like a lot??

No, but I'd like to know how you get on, so please keep us informed on this thread. With pictures if possible.

I'd love more luggage space on my Scorpio, but: a) it costs money; b) I don't want to ruin my bike's beautiful looks .

Definitely not going to spend $265 on a carrier assembly, not when I have to spend another $100-200 on a box... had a look around on TradeMe, there seems to be a few carriers, so will have to check out what the frame is like first to see if I can modify one of those carriers on TM to fit a Scorpio... Badjelly, don't suppose you can take some photos of the frame to give me an idea how a carrier would fit, since I don't have a bike yet?

Otherwise I'll pop to the dealer and tell them that I don't want to hand them $265 for a carrier so I'll check out the frame and see if I can modify something off another bike, I'm sure they won't mind!

That's the sort of money I was quoted.

I'll see what I can do. (I'm a bit forgetful: PM me if I haven't come back with some photos in a day or 2.) Under the seat there's a pair of rails that terminate in a mounting point for the alloy grab rail. The rails are hidden underneath the plastic side cover thingies. Though I have been told there is a mounting kit for this bike, I have trouble seeing where you would fit it without wrecking the side covers.

Thanks Badjelly :)

Been quoted $143 for a L bracket, and $72 for the pack rack, then I would use a pack instead of a box... probably not getting that since it's not that much cheaper than a box, but with a pack, how safe is it to leave on the bike when I get off?

i honestly cant remember what my set up was, but getting it modified added to the costs. plus, cos im a vain bitch and my bike is a cruiser, i had the thing chromed as well, lol. so that pushed the price up furthur.

not sure on security of pack, but a top box will hold up better in the chance of an off. plus, your kit will stay dry.

Here we are then. Four images attached. The first two with the plastic side panel thingy in pace, the others without. Note my current, high-tech load-securing facility.

If you get a set of L brackets, I can make an adapter than fits the top box to the L brackets, like a pack rack. I did that when I had my GSXR back in the day. It worked well.

Hmm... I see what you mean about wrecking the side plastics if you try to fit a frame to it, will have to have a chat with the dealer and see how they would do it, then probably go from there :D

Yeah I think if I can get around the problem of not wrecking the plastics, I'll be able to modify the bracket to fit a box too... not too worried about getting a box fitted to a bracket/frame/rack, just need to figure out how to mount a bracket first! I think it's time I get myself that bike so I can have a closer look at it!

Hey, I'm looking for a top box aswell. On sat I'm going to try the dealer I purchased from , but in the mean time i was looking on this Givi website and on the main page it has a picture slide show which has a bike that looks just like a scorpio on it. It has the box mounted on a frame which bolts on the sides just below the trims. I'll let you know what the dealer quotes .
