The only bit you need to worry about is this: ECE 22-05 Standard

It meets it, so stop worrying.

Yeah, I had seen them on tardme. 39B Neilson Street, Onehunga (down at Onehunga Mall end) for those who are curious. Might pop in for a looksie sometime. Cheap helmet for offroading.

Looking at www.cnell.com, one of the plain black helmets looks very similar to a Nitro Helmet. Same side air intakes.

That's a pretty cool concept actually, (the double visor), great for commuting in Winter when you leave work and the suns on the Horizon, but gets pitch black halfway home....

Yeah, sounds good, wish I had that the other noght when it was dark and raining.

As long as it conforms to the required standards you will be sweet.

Oh, those guys just before the on-ramp, selling all the Chinese scooters and crap ATVs. To be honest, I wouldn't buy something there myself, but as Jim2 says, if the helmet meets the appropriate standard, then you're supposed to be OK, aren't you?

The tinted visor slides up and down so you can use it when the sun is out and slide it up when its over cast or dark.

Yea that's my point, I hate having to pull over to take my sunnies off on my way home :crybaby:

However, even though this helmet is up to standards, I'd be wary about protecting my head for sub $200...

Having a sun visor on the INSIDE is genious. I have the nolan 102 (bloody awesome helmet) which has it on the OUTSIDE. Works fine, but gets absolutly coverd in bugs. and they get in behind it as well, which makes it hard to clean on the side of the road.

cnell-com [...] they have lots of gear on trade me.We just got one of their Nerve jackets, like this one ;

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Helmets-clothing-footwear/Leathers-jackets/auction-182886602.htm

Things we like about it ;

Attractive fit and cut
Strong Cordura fabric
Great colour scheme
3M Reflective panels
Rain deflector on the outside of zip (mohsin is on the inside)
Nice and cool for the summer - zip vents etc.
Tough armor where it counts

Things we're not so keen on ;

Its quite short in the body.. pity it wasnt 2-3cm longer. Maybe a larger size? but then it wont fit the torso area so well.
um, um, um.. not much else comes to mind.

Recommended as a strong, safe, very-smart looking summer-weight sports jacket. It will never be as strong as a leather race suit, nor will any other lightweight cordura jacket, but easily as strong, or stronger than Mohsin or Dririder. Not as warm as DriRider by a long shot, but thats for winter use.

You still got knocked out. KO = brain injury or brain insult. I have a lot of experience with concussion, the better the helmet, the slower the decelaration trauma. Brains don't like getting moved around quickly. Buy the absolute best helmet you can afford and buy 2 minute noodles for lunch for the next 6 months.
BTW, I can loan you a jacket and a back protector until you replace yours...

How fast were you going when you had ya accident? :-) I looked at getting stuff from there but for the reason given - looked cheap and dodgy..

Have you been to the doctor? The other guy's right, being knocked out is at least a mild concussion...

was only doing around 50kmph using my sholder to stop the truck wasnt one of my best ideas:bash:
yes I went to A&E had full checks scans and Xrays.
I got of very lucky with only a few stitches abd brusies.
I was wearing my back pack too which had a lot of kit in it which might have dragged me more then I wanted.
Looking at the the marks on the foot path to the blue gum tree (my resting place) it shows clearly the grooves of my clips and my helmet to the tree.
Back pack is still ok:niceone:

...

I'm with MBB on this one!

A more expensive helmet is also much more comfortable, and you don't spend a potentially fatal part of your ride worrying about that noise... or itch.. or some other little distraction on your melon.

A mate thought his budget helmet was perfect for his needs... after all he was on a learners and could only do 70...

Happy to report, before he even had to use the FFM in anger he tried on a Shoei. The first time out he quickly realised what I had been telling him, and understood why I will always pay top dollar for my lid.

My mate has never had to use the Shoei in anger either.

Mine I have! Got dumped on by back at 30k when I binned the scooter (not the NS1, but a Yamaha Roadie) in a race. All my gear (including the back protector did it's job well.

The Shoei absorbed what was a huge body slam, and I was able to ride for 2 more hours (6 hour race).... with a replacement helmet of course :innocent:

I swear if it was a cheapie I would had sported a massive head ache... or concussion.... Not prepaired to find out!

:lol: I havent had a learners licence for about 30 years.
I have been riding for 30 odd years not counting trail bikes.
I understand what you are saying about getting good helmets.
I am very impressed about this helmet as I do belive it saved my head.

I never said you were a learner... my mate was (at 39). The message was that he never really understood why expensive helmets are so good (other than protecting you in a bin) until he wore one.

Good to hear you understand the value in a good lid... many don't. Sadly.
The Arai man gives a good demo on them...

Before I left NZ and in Portugal I had very expensive helmets.
It was a cost factor this time as we had moved back to NZ and was starting from scratch.
I might go back to the flip top like I had in Portugal.
But the double visor has been so good. We will see lol.
Still have to look at mabe buying a new bike yet.:weep:
