Hypothetical question…
Probably already done elsewhere but it’s a slow night so what the hell.
If you had the budget to upgrade your bike and could afford a new bike, cbr600rr, gsxr600, r6 …
…OR…
you could get a bloody nice Ducati 749S for the same (slightly less) money what would you go for?
Points to note:
1. it could be your only chance to get a new bike
2. new bike would give you a warrantee
3. the other bike is a DUCATI!!!
I know you have to test ride and find whats best for you but putting that aside for now, what would you do?

I would take the new bike, but than again, apart from the 848, Ducati's don't do much for me.
A new Street Triple on the other hand.......

That’s ok, apparently ducati owners aren’t “real” bikers anyway haha

i say you try all of the 6hundy sportsbikes, and that includes the 675, see which one you like best and feel the most comfortable on coming from your current ride, and pick that.

I faced exactly that choice when I bought a bike earlier this year. I chose a new SV650S over a little used 750SS. Why? Suzuki was NEW and had warranty, good reviews and a rep for reliability on its side. The Duc was quite a lot older though with low km's (suspicious of the reading....) had less advanced technology, no warranty and a rep for needing "maintenance". Final factor? The SV was reputed to go faster than the Duc - no contest!!!!:devil2:

The 749S is a lovely bike, but it has a couple of race-spec parts which are considerably more expensive to maintain/replace (e.g. suspension, brakes etc).

another good point.
i have just had a chat to a very helpful guy at the local dealer re service costs. from what i now understand the upkeep for the 749 would be to much for me.
thanks for the replies, i know a lot of people think questions like these are a waste of time and you have to test ride to make a decision but its always good to get as much info before to help eliminate bikes that wont be an option.

Was going to say: workout how much servicing would cost and then choose with your heart. You can often get 2nd hand 749's at www.ktlbikes.co.nz for not too much...
Reckon that once you sort out how you're going to ride, you'll find that you don't have to have the latest and greatest which is good cause it means that you can get what you think is just the coolest. Nothing beats riding to work on an Italian bike, despite its age *ahem*
actaully nothing beats riding full-stop
