Not the ones with tits though enjoy if you are:yes:I mean as in little bikes, years back i used to enjoy putting them together/painting etc and with the onset of winter wouldnt mind having another go.For anyone that does wheres the good shops to buy them, looking for something a little different than the same old MHR replicas etc that have been around for years.

I'd like to do some, but only of bikes I have owned. Sadly nobody does replicas of GN250's, KLR250's and CX500's.

there are not too many model or hobby shops around any more unfortunately. I used to make lots of model cars. Tried a bike about 10 years ago. Hardest part was trying to fit all of the little black hoses etc.
Have a model of the car from the dukes of hazard I was thinking about doing the other day.
Hmmm I think I might dig out the phone book and look for a model shop in Auckland. Will let you know what I find.

I have been considering doing one, Been checking out the model shops in Palmy and Wellington, Found a few that I would love to have a crack at, But they were expensive and my detailing is utter shit, so I would hate to go to all that effort and have it look like pants.....

I have a collection of about 60+ small toy motorcycles. When I was traveling over the years in the US, everywhere I'd go, I'd go to the local Walmart and pick one up. They sit, alone, lonely, despondent in a bag in a cupboard...
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.... :crybaby:

This website seems to have quite a few to choose from.
Blackbird

Tamiya do heaps. You can see a Blackbird, a Ducati 900ss and a BMW K100 that I built on page 1 of the album on my profile page. I was too anal in building and painting the Blackbird (took about a month!) and it put me off model building forever:crybaby:

:niceone:
A pity quite a few of the older models are discontinued.
If they are not available here they could probably be bought over the internet via paypal ?

I use to years gone by make various models from planes, bikes, cars, tanks etc... I would make them again can be relaxing and when you finish can be satisfying... Can be a relaxing hobby...
There is (I think its still there) a model & hobby shop here in Dunedin (lower Stuart street)
I wouldn't mind making a model of the Firestorm... :innocent:

Ah, a discussion about "glue sniffing", as it were... Aint there a model shop down the road from Red Baron, towards the city? One in Papakura ,Steves Models, near the cop shop/roundabout as well.
May your epoxy never set unexpectedly!
For something a bit unusual you should check this out:

Keep an eye on tardme for interesting stuff. I bought a 1:9 scale model of Freddie Spencer's 1983 World Championship winning NS500, and also a YZR500 as well, I think I paid a bit for them (and of course I havent had time to do anything with them, plus the myriad other models I have) I also bought an SR500 street tracker from Acorn models as well.
I bought a Minichamps CB750 1:12 last week, but its made up already. brilliant models the Minichamps stuff, if very expensive.

just finished a hayabusa, got a R1 and a cbr race reps to do next, the hoses are def tricky little buggers, i did find that most of the paint for the detailing transfers over from one bike to the next which is great, took me about a month to do it, just take my time do a little here little there, the trick is to leave it out in the open so you always see it and when ya walking the house a little bored ya can just sit down and do half an hour on it.
the bikes i got were off trade me and from taupo hobby supplys, there is also a good hobby shop on cameron road in tauranga.
I stick to the tamiya stuff due to quality you can trust and try to stick to the same scale like 1/12th, mostly so the bikes are all the same size on the shelf.
also the tamiya paints such as the acrylics, mostly come in the same colours as the enamels nowadays so your brushs wash out in water :done:

Cool thread
So few cruisers to build - only pre-made models! :(
Used to make planes, then moved to movie memorobelia models. Don't do any of that now

Re hoses: use florist wire down the tubing, and bend to suit... You can swap the poly tube for black elastic, and stick it with super glue... Ah, my "secret" past is coming out. LOL!

I recently got one for my birthday from my girlfriend. Bad move on her part as she'll never get any quality time from me anymore as they are freaking addictive. Mine is a Ducati Monster S4 which I am painting the same colour scheme as my real life bike, so so fun. I also bought some assembled models from trademe, a nice Ducati 748, 999 and Desmosedici. I think that I am truly addicted to motorbikes............

Noticed that there are very very few Kawazakis available. Presumably Mr Kawazaki isn't a keen modeller

I was going to suggest Hobby City, but their website (http://www.hobbycity.co.nz/Soldat/productslist.aspx?CategoryID=18&selection=6)dosen't appear to list bikes.
I wonder if a visit to the store would be better?

I'm currently building a Kawasaki ZX12R. Have recently built a couple of planes, ships & cars, but I have really enjoyed doing the bike, will definately do more. The bike is Tamiya brand and this is the best quality plastic of all the ones I've built and will try to stick with Tamiya for any future projects.
The best model shop is Hobby City in Quay St or Albany, they have the best range. Hobby Direct, just down from Red Baron has closed down. ModelAir in Newmarket is quite good too...

Cambridge sport and model shop, main street (on the left as ya go thru cambridge to karapiro).
Frankton Model Shop... Umm, in Frankton Hamilton.
Both are old scholl model building/rc car shops. Should have a bit to choose from and should be quality too...

Had about 20 vinatge cars that I did as a teenager, but they were damaged during a move. Decided not to do anymore without having a dedicated area to work on them and a glass cabnet to store them in.
I do have a Morrie Minir, and an old beer wagon complete with the beer barrels.
Secret to finding really cool ones to do I found was to ask if they had a catalogue at the counter. Quite often there is a hugh selection that the shop will order in for you from overseas.
Actually have been searching for the last month for two small bikes to put on a cake. Might have ago at making them instead I recon.

In Christchurch, Toyworld in Tower Junction have some but are often pricey, the toy store by Casbolts in Manchester St has a few and can order in from the catalogue.

I have built the Tamiya 1/6th scale 1100 Katana and am currently building the 1/6th scale CB1100R. The detail is quite stunning - even down to an engine number on the crankcases.
