Duncan Ferguson is legally getting trolleyed on New Zealand roads.
The innovative 19-year-old mechanic has repeatedly baffled police by cruising around Palmerston North in his motorised shopping trolley, which he built "for the hell of it".

But why use a trolley (that he stole from Write Price)? He could have built a better frame himself.

cool, so 3 wheels = "bike" ? And under 50cc = moped ? So no WOF required ?
Gawdammit I see a whole range of crazy shit being ridden on the road on this basis. Why not ?
What about a KB competition on the craziest road-legal moped ? Members vote for a winner..

the cops should slam him - it has too many wheels to be reg as a scoot.

Well if that heap of shit can be legal and the cops are ok with it then I have no further comment.
Edit I do have a comment: That is a serious injury waiting to happen.

Yeah, its a piece of piss to get a "moped" registered, I walked into an AA office, completed an MR2B form, handed over $78 and walked out with a reg plate and label. No inspection no questions...go figure.

yup I like it, all you have to do for a moped reg is have an engine number, a Chassie number, a make, and go pay your money, you can make up your own chassie number.

Hmm, haven't read the article but what exactly has 'baffled' the cops??
Good on him - I wonder how much he paid the supermarket for the trolly itself??
(Goes away to read article)
PS: I'm amazed at the number that think "wow, cool, I might do something like that" - like none of 'em have any imagination, they've never had inclination to do something similar, hell, surely we've ALL thought of doing something like that before, right??

Yup, tried to fit an electric motor to my home built wooden cart when I was a nipper. Didn't have any balls tho so I ditched it.
I wouldn't put too much stock in Manawatu reporting at the moment. They reported the upcoming rescue helicopter charity ride as a "race". Perhaps by "baffled" they mean "cracked up". That's what I did when I saw it last Friday.

Sure. They were called go-carts and the prototype was trialed out by the little sister :doctor:

hes turned an old write price trolley into a motorised vehicle. 49cc, registered as a moped, complete with l plate. he said it has to be up to a warrentable standard. now tell me, do mopeds not need to have at least one mirror and indicators? what about tail light? cos i sure as heck didnt see those on the trolley.
he can reach a whole 45k. looks dangerous as fuck too. but, it costs $6/week to run.
was on the news last night ,he keeps on getting pulled over by the cops (who think it should be illegal )but theres nothing they can do, good on him IMHO :scooter:

The innovative 19-year-old mechanic has repeatedly baffled police by cruising around Palmerston North in his motorised shopping trolley, which he built "for the hell of it".
Equipped with a 50cc moped engine, the Write Price cage can hit speeds of 45kmh atop wheels taken from a ride-on lawnmower.
It costs $6 to fill up - petrol which lasts the week - though the lack of wiring means his arms get plenty of exercise as indicators.
But no matter how many times he is pulled over, the police can find no legal fault with it.
Mr Ferguson said he was in a "motorising phase" when he constructed it about a year ago. "I worked at Write Price in Feilding and just looked at a trolley one day and was like 'why not?'," he said.
"It's all legal, I made sure of that and the police have checked quite a few times. I take it out and cruise round The Square on Friday and Saturday nights. I get a few looks."
His joy-riding is somewhat lonely though, as he can't legally take passengers.
But he is getting set to make modifications, he said, so anything is possible yet.
I'm going to LOL when they're appealing for donations for his hospital bills.

Fucking dickhead... who the fuck would build one of those!!!!
Well... I did. A lot of shaking heads when I went for a ride! :Punk:
BTW... mine was a 200cc, 6.5hp(ha) and could reach around 60-70km/h. Rested on a Wright Racing Kart Frame too, so it was sturdy!
No cop troubles. :2guns:
