Mine is with swann through kiwibike .. they did great when we needed to claim .. although the investigator was a little slow.

There are a few insurance threads on here, but the general concensus is Tim (Jetboy on KB), for John Baker Ins. a good guy, Dave at Kiwibike is also a good guy, if your over 30 you could try Classic Cover.

I'm with Tim and he's done a good deal for me, so have to recommend him.

Do a search cuz, you'll find:

Kiwibike
John Baker
Classic
are all well regarded (in no particular order). All are brokers.

And people have mixed opinions about:

AMI
State
Swan (directly)
Starr (directly)

And then there is e-bike....... eek....

Chur.

State, dont care what people say they have been great and cheapest by over $1100 pa for my hornet also cheapest excess at $400 Just make sure u get contents insurance to.

I compared over 5 - 6 diff companies. And they have been very good with my claim.

Just don't get any carbon fibre bits, huh??

FWIW, I'm with Kiwibike - $250ish for the year for the RF. Doesn't live in a garage either.

Heard good things about Swann and also seen great things posted about Vero on here. I am going to stick with Vero at this stage.

Definitely ring around  I rung around and the first company basically hung up on me as soon as they heard "'07 bike, 18 year old rider and a 600cc", also got quoted huge excess etc etc... Ended up going with Tim through John Baker Insurance.
Have been really pleased with him so far :D Poor guy, I rung quite a few times before I bought my bike asking different questions and then just 2 weeks after I bought it I rung him again to see how much it would be for another bike ... I've even texted him on a Sunday morning to see if I was covered on the marshals play time on the track... And I was :woohoo:

I was with State. I agree their rates are good. I never made a claim with them. I switched insurer with my last bike because State don't offer extensions for track days and riding courses conducted on tracks.

+++++ These guys are great. Definitely get a quote from them. Gear and bike accessories are covered in the same policy so no need to pay a second excess claiming them on your contents policy.

I agree with Mikkel. The true strength of an insurance is only shown when you have an accident. I've had one and I have nothing but praise for David Golightly and vero insurance.

Plus David is also a Biker and supports the local biker community well with ruapuna safety rides as well.

PM me and I'll give you his number. After the off I have the insurance policy at work

PS also covered all my gear, no questions.

One thing you might like to keep in mind when looking at various policies is do they cover you riding gear too?
You will pay a premium for the luxury of having everything covered under the one policy but it's worth looking into I reckon.
Might save you having to pay two excesses, one for the bike and one for you gear under the household policy.
Just a thought.:niceone:

I recommend to not insure, but save your money up and insure yourself. Statisically, you will be better off in the medium to long term, unless you are a nightmare to insure, in which case no one will insure you, and neither should you. ;)

He certainly seems like a good bastard - haven't had to call on him yet. But I'm certainly getting insurance for my new bike with Vero as well!

And this is very bad advice!
Statistically you will be better off by not riding a motorcycle...

Because I strongly disapproved of your post... That is what red rep is for - and that's why I gave it out. I both explained why and signed the rep message...

You crying about it in public is just a bonus! Now, do you want to take it international? :nya:

I did, and had no problem. Would echo that the assessor was slow, but they outsource assessing and I'm not sure they're any worse than anyone else.

FWIW I am thoroughly in favour of insurance, as much for the "hit a beemer" scenario as anything else.

The last bit doesn't seem to matter - I told them I currently have 70 bonus points, and they said it was irrelevant.

OLD > naughty

I too went through kiwibike, and was most impressed, after years with State, then a year with AMI, neither of whom seemed to really care much that we had house + contents + four (4!) motor vehicle policies.

I have my 600 Hornet with Swann through Kiwibike. ~260 pa with 250 excess whereas State (who I've only ever had great dealings with) was ~200 pa with 1000 excess....I went with lower excess but higher prem.

Dave and Kiwibike crew were tops to deal with.:2thumbsup
