View Full Version : We're taught real men don't cry...

(except from when we forget to make backups.)

...still my heart is heavy and I am hurting. :bye:

Tomorrow I am taking my ZXR out for, what will most likely be, our last ride together.

Call me sentimental - at least I hope someone here might be able to relate - but passing my first motorcycle on seems incredibly hard right now.
We've done 13,500 kms together, gone over the next hill and the one beyond that as well, been on adventures, had fun times and scary times and done silly things too.

If I had the space and the money I would keep it indefinitely. Alas, I could not possibly justify more than two bikes at this point in time.
She is in bloody good nick and running better now than she has probably ever done before. I just hope who ever buys her will look well after her...

There's no way I can imagine having to handle a private sale - so I am having Street & Sport sell it for me on behalf. I'm almost hoping it won't sell so I'd get it back after a couple of months <_<

So that's it - final curtain for the red ZXR that I have enjoyed so much. I just hope that the new bike which I am picking up tomorrow will help me get over it.

...whisky helps as well.

I wrote off/destroyed my first dozen or so motorcycles. Swapped a few of them for kegs. hell of a way for a send-off.

Come to think of it, My first bike that was road legal I took offroad, and blew the gearbox, I then swapped it with my brother for his falcon, which I crashed and sold it back to him for $50, Then walked to the bottle store and bought some Jim Beam....and some weed

Can't say that I'm gonna cry... or even really be close to it. But I know where you're coming from.

With the RZ taking pride of place in the garage, and 3 cars, a trailer, a half completed motorhome, the wee mans collection of bikes, trikes and trucks sprawled across the driveway... the missus has said I have to cut back, and so the Zong is getting the clean & photo treatment.

I never ever thought I'd be sorry to see the back of it to be perfectly honest... but now that I prepare to put it up on TradeMe, I can't help but feel sorry for it, and reminiscent of the times past.... Until I get on the RZ, then I don't really mind so much!!!

So cheer up Mikkel, the new bike will make ALL the difference!! Fond memories of the ol' girl but you're too busy havin fun with the new one!!!!!
:2thumbsup

That reminds me of a party I went to when I was younger, It was out of control, house getting smashed up, cars through fences, fighting everywhere, People were demolishing the shed for firewood, then one bright spark figured they would just set fire to the shed.

She went up fast, lit up the night, The party paused to take in the sight of it, then we hear someone yelling "You fucking cunts, My fucking bikes in there"

Not good! Sounds like quite a party...

Hmmm jrandom never commented on the properties of superglide when he covered the other lubes...

But no, trust me - I know exactly how you feel. And this is worse... At least the new one won't have fancy fairings or paintwork I have to worry about. No need for waxing and such - a quick hose down with a waterblaster and it's as good as new.

Indeed.

My 'mighty' ZZR was my bestest friend.

Then, Mr Full License and Mr Crusier came along - and ZZR could get the hell outta my garage, for it was only a motorcycle.

Ahhh, know where you're coming from Mikkel. My dear RS is far away, being manhandled by hairy Northeners with beards. I miss her! Want her back in the gargre! RZ powerband is fun, but it's like a cheap fling with the girl at the coffee shop after your real love leaves you for a law school grad.

So in future I'm hanging on to her tight! None of this `selling' nonsense.

Don't listen to Donor and Little David. They're cold, heartless bastards -- from one cheap, meaningless relationship to the next. :bye:

I know how you feel Mikkel....I watched my Triumph ride away with its new owner on Sunday, and remember the same feeling when I sold my Yamaha YZF. Both bikes were awesome to me but I know they went to a good home and the right person. I also know that, I now have a bike that will give me just as much pleasure as the others did so its all good. The outcome is positive.

I think I'd have to agree with you there! I suspect it's that 'lack of commitment' syndrome which often occurs in people who goes through a lot of fast machines in a short time

Mate, Christchurch may be coldish in the winter - but surely not that cold...

That said - cold Pilot Powers are not up to keeping the beast in line if you feed it more than just a tiny weeny bit wrist around slow corners :2thumbsup

It's a lot easier now that the ZXR has actually left the garage and something else has taken its place

I sold my '99 Busa a few years back, as three bikes just wasn't necessary. While I'm generally not sentimental about machines, I do miss that Busa. I had some amazing times on that machine...
Hang in there, go riding and take your mind off it... Time heals all wounds...:shit:

I certainly am loving it. While it demands respect it is also confidence inspiring. Getting used to the upright riding position and the torque-y power delivery are the main issues. I'm still trying to decide whether leaning in, with or out is the better approach - the funny thing is they all feel right, albeit in different ways. For the time being I am being fairly conservative with the throttle - both to keep the front wheel on the ground and the rear tyre gripping. :Punk:

Doesn't feel like I'm going to be bored any time soon

Even if I had the skills I wouldn't have the stomach for that stuff  But they sure know how to chuck those things around. :eek5:

Had a nice slide today in the wet, was in a bit of a hurry to get home and get dry - pushed it a bit taking a right at an intersection. Had one of those nice situations where you actually have to countersteer - a la drifting mind you.
