The Victoria Motorcycle club racing Rnd 2 held at Manfeild
Here we go again – Well I thought I would do the test day on Friday – I had New 2nd hand discs to bed in as my ones that I used in Taupo were bent 12 thou out damn!! Maybe that’s why I had some shuddering under brakes……. hhmmmmm
Manfeild is not my preferred track too - best to get a few laps in to get a leg up on all you fast buggers too! I chased Braydon Taite for the day – it wasn’t a really a chase when his 450 was in one piece. Unfortunately it “expired” toward the end of the day. He timed me at around 1:23’s. He did say I went under that for a lap but then back to the norm.
Robert Taylor had a quick look at my suspension setup. He built my Ohlins shock a year or 2 ago and overhauled/ resprung the front suspension. With minor changes to rebound on both ends of the bike – he said that ill turn in better tomorrow, which is what I was struggling with.
That track was cold so gave it 3 laps to get my Sh&t sorted then put the hammer down – I was lucky that in both my sessions, I had 2 clear laps and the END of the session.
I qualified 7th in Formula 3 with a 1:22 NICE and 4th in Post Classics JNR with a time a 1:21.5.s WHERE DID THAT COME FROM!
Rob come back and touch my bike again!!
Race 1, Man those lights are great – I seem to get good starts with them and with my grid poss on the outside of the first couple of rows, it makes that first comer way easier to do the bunch who for some reason go tight and then slow down. The race was good, Braydons borrowed 600 didnt help me on the straights at all!
Mr Chet no. 90 well ridden! Great to see another 400 hitting it to the boys. I did manage to place 4th behind Braydon after 6 laps so was really happy and I Stayed on my pace of around 1:21s.
The F3 race I started with a bit too much gas – the front came and then headed towards the wall so off the throttle and go again – don’t like duffing the starts but the crash caused the restart so I got another go at it. Now it was down to 4 laps - awesome I prefer the sprint races just because I normally drop off as the race continues. I did get a great start and after the quick 4 laps I fought off some more Sv’s to placed 4th.
With the change to longer races I was concerned about both me and my rear tyre – it was only 2 race days old but I was starting to get quite a bit of spin if I was too eager! Specially in the spot Scratcher came off/ it was really bad through there ( Exit of turn 1 ) - Post Classic race 2 was a trouble free race; I battled a bit with some red Gs1000 thingy and even Chris sales for a bit - he might have got a bad start or needed to conserve gas or something but I only had a few laps before he pinned his ears back– then I was on my lonesome again - I did just keep riding with some in reserve as I had one more race to go and I wasn’t being pressured by anyone close behind me. I placed 4th again.
The last race in F3 I got a good start again and was running a good race – I consistently sat on the low 1:21’s. At around the 8 lap mark, a Paul on his blue SV ran off the track at Higgins and lost a lot of ground rejoining the track just in front of me. Sweet there is nothing better than thinking u may get another SV. I did put my head down and really push – but I couldn’t quite close the gap enough- he got held up by some lap traffic which did help but I didn’t manage to pass him.
I did do a 1:20.04 on the 9th lap trying!!!!!. This really showed that I can even go faster – as long as the right carrot is dangled in front of me.
I placed 4th in both my classes for the day which was sweet – I believe I’m the highest 400 in F3 at the mo which is great – ill fly the 400 FLAG FOR LIFE!
Think I’m 4th overall in the championship in both Formula 3 and Post Classics JNR.
I’d like to say that most of the Vic club racers are really good to race against – I tried to take Paul on the inside at one point. He just held his line made me work for the pass – I couldn’t quite get there. But it shows primo professionalism – you don’t get given anything but when you make the pass its cause you’ve made it.
Thanks to Unbelievable times, Motomart, Dan at Motorad, Marty plus all the pit helpers, Dunlop for the sticky GPRA10’s, the Airforce for support and Vic Club for the great meet again.
