If I race in Clubmans...

Im going to join MCCanterbury so I can compete in Clubmans on me R6 for a start, but I was wondering wether I could enter in any other classes & if so what would the R6 be eligible for.
Also, if I run in clubmans, would I have to get a MNZ license to compete in other classes,& do the "other" classes have more stringent requirements re scrutineering i.e,no lights whatsoever even if they're plastic lenses taped up?
And...is there a link anywhere to the rules & regulations of racing in N.Z

The rules and all of the class regs are at Motorcycling New Zealand (http://www.motorcyclingnz.co.nz/competitionrules.aspx).

Most, if not all, of what you need should be there except for the details of the local club's regs regarding their meetings. The Victoria Motorcycle Club (http://www.vicclub.co.nz/) has a set of Winter Series Supplimentary Regs on the web site explaining the classes being raced for, just so you can get an idea of how it works.

If you enter clubmans you can't run in any other class on the same day on the same bike

Scrutineering is the same no matter what class you're in

When you decide to move out of clubmans and into F2 you can also cross enter F1 if they're running seperate classes (most times they run together)

What kick says ... but also Clubmans is there as an entry class to racing which is why you don't race in other classes. One you feel that you have advanced enough then move into the other classes when cross entry is allowed.

Hey,

I went through the same thing just a few months ago. It felt like a big mission get my head around everything needed to get started in Clubmans. Looking back, it's not so bad. Check out the links below, Vicclubs page has a pretty good summary of the main things you have to do to your bike. The details are in MNZ's papers.

Clubmans is a great class for trying out racing. I'm still getting used to everything around the race. Things I didn't think about until I actually did my first race day includes: sign up in the morning (where/when do I go, what do I need to write in my logbook?), have the bike ready the night before (charge battery!), scrub in session (there only a few minutes after rider's briefing to get ready for scrub in, so have your bike ready, I missed my first scrub in session, the faring was still off the bike), qualifying, warm-up lap, dummy grid, finding your place on the start grid, starting a race with lights, remember to look for flags all the time, transponder (where do I put this thing?) and don't forget to send in you entry form in good time for each race.
All these things will take time getting used to, but after my second race I feel much more confident and relaxed during the day.

After qualifying session and two races in a day, I'm knackered. I wouldn't want to cross enter at this point (if I could), it's pretty full on as it is.

I guess the main thing is just to get ready and go to a meeting. So send in all the paper work and hopefully you can join us for round 3! (if you're considering vmcc series)

They way I under stand it, you can either pay MNZ to race in events within your own club only, or pay for a full license, meaning you can take part of any event around the country. In VMCC you pay $80 dollars (?) for one race, and another $10 for each new class after that, or something like that. If you're in clubmans, you're only allowed in this class as other already stated.

I took my bike to my dealer and asked them to help me prepare the bike to make it race legal and go through it to make sure it's safe. We also serviced the suspension and set it up for my weight, changed gearing and upgraded the brake master cylinder. I could probably have done many things on it my self, but it's a peace of mind for me to have professionals to do the first check. I wish I had my own mechanic to help me out with the bike, my old man would love to do it, but he lives in Sweden.
Best money spent is good tires and serviced suspension, in my opinion. I bought tire warmers as a cheap insurance against binning in the first corner (they will make your tires last longer as well).
