I know nothing about sports bikes - personally they do nothing for me, but heck you dont half get a lot of speed for litttle $$$ compaired with cars - to get that performance with 4 wheels you gotta be talking 500k + cars.
Gotta love bikes huh.

There's a few missing there for sure.
A whole heap of bikes can do 265km/hr though.
Even my RF could when it first came out.

Hayabusa rocks! Absolutely amazingly, wickedly quick and fast.

Yeah but the 1000R is, which would lead me to believe the list is a little out of date.
And come on, the Blackbird? That kinda top speed was only any good last millenia!

considering the 07 busa is the benchmark, and there's no actual real world testing information, i'd say this is just a collection of manufacturer's spiels.....indeed the lead picture of the gold/silver bus is a colour scheme that went out in 1999 i think

I thought the busa and ZX14 were heading towards 200mph (320km) territory? The speeds indicated here seem a little low.
I know the speedo's are a bunch of horse shit, but I've seen 300km indicated on a ZX9R. These bikes mentioned should be capable of a shit load quicker than that old girl was.

'Indicated' speeds can be rather inaccurate. Try 275km/h.
'08 Hayabsua will crack 325km/h when derestricted.
Aerodynamics are a big deal when pushing past 300km/h.
I think something like .01cda is equal to about 4hp at 300km/h!

:) I've got a clip somehwere of a GSX1400 with after market exhausts only, doing 2.57 seconds from 0-100kmh. When they first came out there was nothing on earth that would touch them to 100kmh (Standard production vehicles I'm talking about)

Jap manufacturers have a gentlemans agreement to limit speeds to 300kmh.
Most modern litre plus bikes will exceed 300kmh if unlimited. The early Busa's were landing strip tested to 320kmh.

I also have heard this.
One of the importers I worked with told me that the manufacturers don't publish the absolute figures for a couple of different reasons. For example:
1. To prevent a horsepower/speed marketing war.
2. To avoid attracting adverse publicity.
3. To prevent the bikes being restricted or banned in export markets.
MTT Y2K is a production motorcycle? Hmmm never seen one in NZ
I love the sound tho! :sunny:

That's cos there aren't any (many) 1973 Yamaha SC500MXers that still go :jerry:

Not a hope in hell mate, busas and 14s don't do 320 and 9Rs go nowhere near 300.:Punk: Maybe this thread short be shifted to the f^%ken hilarious column:rockon:

Kinda funny that the busa once again is incorrectly called the fastest (if ya don't count the jetbike thingee) I've posted up many times links to a majority of tests that have the ZX12r outrunning Busa's by 3-4mph.......and the Blackie didn't beat the ZX11 (zzr1100) that was clocked at around 304kph when they were first released....

Ermm quote from a test review on the Hayabusa early models.
"Of course it was the 300kmh-plus top speed which grabbed headlines. In fact, a stocker recorded 314 at Avalon airfield."
I remember that verified 314kmh top speed test from another review somewhere but can't find it. I recall one airfield test on a calm day recorded a verified 319kmh from a stock earlier model Busa as well.

So obviously a Busa recorded well over 300 at the recent speed trials here... however I'm not saying a modified one can't do that, but not a stocker. Maybe you can find a Busa and we put it up against a 312R next speed trial. If the Busa runs 319 even one way I'll buy you a beer, hell I'll buy beer if it runs 314. I reckon the Bus will come in :second:

This has probably been said a thousand times, Speedos are lying bastards, even on a stock bike. factor in gearing, tyre, wheel changes etc, and its even worse.

depends on brands
some brands take off the rear wheel, which is alot more accurate than the front sprocket
or if bike has a speedo healer to correct said problem

Cliffhanger Sprints (http://www.cliffhanger.org.nz/results/Sprints%20Fastest%20Flying%20Feb08.htm) times. The Busa showed 317 on his GPS as top speed from memory. He had a funny looking bottle in his rear end.

yep
i tested both my VFR and RF with a GPS; the RF was about 8% slow, the VFR was shocking, about 15% down

Shit 15% that means at 300 you are only doing 255, do you think we could argue that next time we get pulled over.
"sorry officer i assumed my spedo was 15% out"

I agree you can get correct readings, but if you see a video on the internet showing a stock 600 doing close to 300KPH, something aint right.
MY father N law took his Stock SP1 to a flying quarter and it was reading 299 (its a digital readout that only goes to 299) actual speed 266.

lol yeah dreams are free....it was an '86 NC21 VFR400 - the best i got out of it was 182 (GPS) and the speedo was reading waaaaaaay off the clock
looked impressive from the riders point of view tho

yeah japs are shocking
i got a speedohealer in the 600, which i have testing against a gps, it now reads with in 0.5km/h at 100km/h
suzuki speedos read fast by 8% on average(factory build in)
and in turn my dash reads the same as the aprilia at 100-160km/h at least

my speedo was showing 300, but the GPS was only showing 260, so i got off and walked, cause it was heaps quicker.......
