View Full Version : Night Rod missing like Jimmy Hoffa

When the bike was stock it ran really well. After the mods it's missing at low and mid range. The mods are:
- De baffled stock pipes
- K&N filter
- Power commander
This was all tuned on a dyno and compared to a mates Night Rod Special, mine is definitely not running as it should. I took it back to the shop and they said it's running fine, plugs are not gunked up etc, etc...
Any ideas?

How much effort is it to put the baffles back in ? worth a shot if it aint much hassle, that will tell ya if its just a back pressure problem ! Or if yr mate has records of the tune that was dialed in to his and compare them, if his pipes debaffled also !

Power commanders are junk mate. You need the genuine race tuner (not just the fueler) fitted...and sorted. Bring it down here!

If the trouble started straight after the stage one upgrade then i'd say take it back and get them to take it for a spin. Maybe they didn't load the correct new mappings or it didn't quite take???? debaffling does reduce backpressure so that will increase popping on deceleration but I don't believe it should miss.
I did a stage one on my chubby and it popped and cracked for a while. I took it back and was told that everything panned out. However, they did reload the mapping onto both the SERT and the EFI, even though they said it was the same mappings that were on it and when i rode her for the first time after that I noticed quite a difference for the better.
Can you compare the map settings with the ones on your mates bike?
Overall, if your not happy take it back.

are you running a different fuel to what they dynoed it with?

I would recommend going to another dyno shop and getting them to look at it.
when I did my car with a after market ECU I wasn't happy with the first tune - the second place got me about another 10 % out of the car and it ran a ton smoother.
Tuning is a artform - sometimes you get a picasso, sometimes to get a slightly oxygen starved fat chick who paints with their feet.

Awww right Harley talk, with ya now !

I thought there was only one type of diesel.

I thought there was only one type of diesel.
thats the problem then, they probably tuned it for bio diesel, you need to be running the high performance agricultural grade.

Well now. I guess that fucked tuning would be why I stalled it about four times in ten minutes trying to take off from a standstill.
:pinch:
I didn't think 1100 cc V-twins were supposed to behave like that!

Operator error. :weep:
It was amusing though.

Biodiesel is great stuff, that is if you can get it. Much nicer than that old fossil fuel.

one and two will probably lean it out but I'd not expect missing - popping on deceleration if lean and maybe feeling a bit weak.
I'd disconnect the powercommander and plug the factory unit back together and go for a ride - it will be a bit lean but if it does not miss and runs better then the problem is all in that expensive dyno tune you paid for

That's actually a very good idea. The PCs can be a bit cranky sometimes, and running a 'zero map' or disconnecting them can sort it out.
If it turns out that it actually runs better with the PC disconnected, I'd go back to the shop and tell them to fix it.
Heck, you should go back to them and get them to fix it regardless: what's the point of paying all that money for a Power Commander, then some more for a dynotune, and not be happy with the results?
BTW - what have you done with the real Finn? Y'know - the one that doesn't put up with crap from noisy roadworkers outside his house, who doesn't put up with crap from anyone? [I]He wouldn't have put up with this crappy motorcycle...:oi-grr:
[I]It's really weird - you think that having a big, bad m'cycle would turn Fin into a BadAssMofo, not a pussy....

rock n roll man....thats completely blingworthy :killingme :done:

Yes!
Now that's the Finn we all recognise.
Although a bid, bad, biker mofo wouldn't have pissed around drawing that.
Or posting on KB.
He'd be out riding in the rain, off to the tuning dude to tell him to fix his fucken engine up.

Give John at triplezee a ring. he advertises on here.
He would be one of the more clued up guys around when it comes to dynos and tuning

Not only that...but for your money we can make ANY injected bike run better without one!

For Suzuki's we can sort them out with a teckin (sp) tuner...on our dyno. Mint.

have you tried talking to john at triple zee?
he did wonders on my buell with his dyno - and was really approachable and reasonable.
