Advertising on Kiwi Biker

Kiwi Biker just continues to grow and it wont be long until I need to upgrade the server I rent to a more powerful one again to cope with the increasing members. With the cost of running the site becoming more than I can afford even with the help of donations, I am going to have to do what I always said I never would, and start accepting advertising for the site. All ads will be local and motorcycle related.

All quires about advertising on Kiwi Biker should go to our new site ad man <A href="mailto:gixser@kiwibiker.co.nz?subject=Kiwi%20Biker %20Advertising">GIXser</A> or myself (spankme@kiwibiker.co.nz).

Bike shop members will still be able to post in the Shop Sales, Info & Discounts forum.

Publish the rate card and specs and I have several customers who'll be in.

You also have the option of accepting or declining the placements. If it's invasive or OTT - just decline.

Every big forum I'm a member of has advertising banners on them. Just a fact of life, someone has to pay the bills and you actually find some pretty good deals on some.

I have donated in the past, and am quite happy to do so again in the future, but if the site needs more than donations to keep going then so be it!

Does raise the question about the potential need to moderate sigs, I could easily put a banner ad in my sig linked to another site and get away without paying for it. Sponsor or not, it's still advertising and as Spank owns the billboard, he should be paid for putting posters on it.

The box that appeared earlier today is nothing compared to what other sites have, google bots in threads making every 5th post an ad, or flash banners all over the show. Seems fine to me, i like some of the ones i see on other forums, i've been led to a few great sites selling gear and bits from ads. The google ones are useless.

Other sites do have a sort of "subscriber" thing going for them, subscribe, you get features like senior members here do, only you can turn the ads off (you get access to a skin for the forum that does not have the ad box on it)
A good example would be tlzone (http://www.tlzone.net/forums/payments.php shows what they do)
I'd keep them on anyway, as long as they arent google ones!

Never said anything about annual subs, And I doubt you would get 10 or 5 percent paying up never mind 50%, and locking out non-payers would kill the site over night.

Many sites have a user level designated as a contributor( a set amount of cash, 100 percent voluntary), You don't generally get anything more then a non-contributor, (though one site I frequent gets special deals from its advertisers that are only available to contributing members, works well) It just means a system is in place that may help to get a worthwhile amount of revenue.

Anyway, Its just an idea, I no longer have the advertising blocked.....But I don't generally click on advertising anyway. Though I have visited the Quasimoto site more times in the last week then in my entire life.
