Right... So After a year and a bit more off bikes. I just got myself another bike (this is a whole another thread altogether some other time...) and seeing that I wrote off all of my gear last time I crashed. I spent some ridiculous amount of money buying all new gear again.

So first on my list was a Shark S800 helmet. I had a S500 helmet last time I crashed and it was the best helmet I have ever had. It was light. Was very aerodynamic (doesn't get buffeted in the wind so much) and fit my head exceptionally. So I thought the next model up S800 would be a great start.

Good thing for me cycletreads had some great sale on these helmets and managed to pick up a graphics one for merely $250. It's the same great fit as the S500 and this one has removeable liners unlike the S500 and much cooler vents and have better (in my opinion) visor release. (I have clear and smoke visors so I change visors often) So I went out for a ride for the first time today and so far so good. The helmet is a lot warmer than the S500 which is a plus in winter... or so I thought.

I'm riding along the road and I noticed the inside of the visor fogging up. No problem I thought I'll just crack the visor open, open all the vents and it will be okay.... The visor clears very very slowly but it did but it's getting a bit breezy with the wind coming in. That's okay I'm about to get on the motorway once I get on the motorway I can close the visor... - Nope - I got on the motorway, closed the visor (I had the vents open) and the stupid visor just fogs up again straight away - FUCK! - cracked the visor open somehow managed to travel to the next motorway exit without having anything come into my helmet and hit my eyes and crawled my way home with the visor open.....

All in all. S800 seems like a great helmet except for the fogging problem... I just can't believe the visor fogs up at motorway speed with the vents open. Anyhow. I'll be putting some cat crap on it and will try again later today. If you're thinking about getting one of these make sure you have another way of keeping fog off your visor.

The S500 is excellent. I replaced it with the um...... S500 Espirit Air (http://www.shark-helmets.com/shark_gb.htm). It's shaped differently and is as cheap as chips which is lucky as I tested out mine pretty hard at the last VMCC round at Manfield. Doesn't seem to fog up at at all above 50K's

Helmets should be chucked after a wee smash or every four years. I won't be wasting money on expensive ones again.
