I've been taking my bikes and cars there for 5 years. Gary's always seen me right.

But today, he's not there. I turn up at 12.00 with an hour left to go.

VT: "No sorry we won't give you a warrant. There's only an hour left until we close and we have four cars to do."

ME: "But there's three inspectors here. Surely you can fit me in."

VT: "Nope. We can't be bothered doing bikes today."

ME: "But I've been coming here for years. Gary always gives me a warrant."

VT: "Gary's not here. And no one else wants to deal with your sort today."

Fine. Canon Point Mechanics got my $35 today. And will do in future. VTNZ can stick with their Pajeros with boat trailers and people movers. I'll deal with people who understand my sort. And Gary will get a call on Monday. I'm sure he'll be delighted to get rid of my type of customer.

And to top it off I had to fork out $270 for a year's rego too...

Ouch. It's been a $1000 month for the bike.

Nah. Gary (the boss) is a good bloke.

His staff are just a pack of lazy pricks with a big anti-biker problem.

Just told my Dad the story. As he said "going to VTNZ, you can only loose".

They seem to point out many more things wrong with a vehicle than a shop trying to get some work.

I've got no problem with anyone pointing out anything that doesn't come up to scratch on my bike. That's why I service it fastidiously myself. I know there's nothing wrong with it when I take it for a warrant.

It's getting told that people don't want to deal with me I have a problem with.

Not having a go - but it sounds like Gary and his business needs help rather than a loss of custom? Better staff rather than a loss of good custom - or did I miss something?

I'm guessing Gary will be told of what happened?

edit - I see he will -all good. :niceone:

Sounds like a polite letter to VTNZ head office is in order. They tend to take these things pretty seriously.

They may not have been in a position to actually give out a bike warrant. VTNZ policy is that bike inspector must hold a full bike licence. That doesn't explain the "your kind" tho...

No - they had three guys on who were all capable. They just didn't want to do any more work and got irritated when I wouldn't take no for an answer. Trust me - I offered to help them in any way to get a warrant today. They just wanted to have a cruisy day and didn't want some scruffy biker giving them the hurryup with only an hour to go. I'll talk to Gary about it Monday.

Anyway - bygones. I got the warrant thanks to Cannon Point.

As a white middle class male I find it quite invigorating to be the subject of prejudice now and then.

Hi Riffer,

Good to hear you are going to tell Gary. Don't be afraid to take it higher if you get fobbed off. VTNZ are supposed to take customer support seriously.

I showed up to a VTNZ station up here on a Saturday for a WOF after phoning ahead and got there to find the only guy who could do warrants was off sick and I was sent away. I complained and got a personal apology and $5 off the next WOF, not much but at least they admitted their stuff up.

LOL, I can't disagree with you Riffer!

Dave took the trailer there for a warrant 3 weeks ago and the guy failed it for the suspension bushes being worn and the shackle attaching the chain to the trailer needing to be a bolt instead (or something like that - I don't listen too well when it's boring stuff like that...all I hear is 'it failed...blah, blah, blah...will cost money to fix....blah, blah, blah....won't be able to take the stuff to the dump til I can fix it....blah, blah, blah).

Turns out that the thing he failed the trailer for doesn't even exist on our trailer - so we were failed for a non-existent thing being worn??????? Dave only found that out once he'd ground some bloody big bolts off the underside to get to the thing that wasn't there.....*sigh*

And the shackle/bolt thing isn't even a rule - he phoned LTNZ to confirm.

He's much more sweet natured (and less sleep deprived and hormonal) than me - he just sighed and put it down to experience. I was all up for going and ripping some heads off, LOL :D

So yeah, their service sucks at the moment.

(but they do have a point about not wanting your sort around the place.... ;) )

and $5 off the next WOF

LOL, we get $5 off the next WOF every time we get a supermarket docket.....so even their customer complaint resolution sucks!

My god, the whingeing POM is strong in me tonight

Oh. What's wrong with big hairy bikers with beer guts? Hardly a rarity in Upper Hutt ;)

Thanks for the jokes guys. Much appreciated.

As for the schackle/bolt thing. My FIL got pinged on his trailer for the same thing. According to them, the restraint chain needs to be bolted to the frame. It can't be welded. And we have to do the wheel bearings on the trailer every other warrant on the trailer because they reckon they're rooted. Go figure.

Shit I'm screwed now then, I'm hairy as, have a huge beer gut and just got a bike :niceone: I've been go'n to VTNZ in Upper Hutt for years too with two cars, will be interested to see the reception I get next time I show up with my bike!

I've always found it difficult for them (at Upper Hutt) to do a WoF on a Saturday morning - you need to get there early. Last time the cage was done they must have turned at least half a dozen people away, and it was only 11am...

Good gracious, was it nationwide then? Made arrangements during the week to get a warrant on the 1098. Rang the testing station to ensure that they would take the bike without an apppointment etc, turned up bright and early to be told that the guys that does it is off sick!

Craig then took it to another place in Porirua and was totally ignored, with people walking past to and fro - so asked for a warrant and was told that they were not interested in doing bikes this morning as they had cars to do.

Ended up taking it to Lower Hutt where of course it ran straight through being a new bike 'n' all.:scooter:
