Hello,
I'm in the process of buying a scooter and was wondering if anyone out there can tell me a bit about the engines the TGB scooters are running? All i can find is that they are morini engines. There appears to be a lot of info out there about the Honad Dio and Yamaha minarelli designs and how good these are, but not that much (that i can find) regarding the TGB engines.
I kind of like the looks of these TGB scooters (especially the R50X) and have been lurking on this forum reading the advice other first time buyers have been getting from everyone...which has been great.
thanks in advance
Oh yeah, spot the newbie

I'm pretty sure TGB make their own engines.
They are a piston port design the same as morini, but the castings are all covered with the TGB logo.
TGB also make major components for the european manufacturers - next time you pull a tranny off a euro, check the casting marks.
TGB means Taiwan Golden Bee ie "Wasp" or "Vespa" if you are italian.
IMHO TGB make scooters that are the equivalent of anything else on the market.
Of course I would say that 'cos I sell TGB and Peugeot scooters.
I also use one for daily transport. I'd cheerfully ride my moped to Auckland tomorrow, without having to spend a second checking it.
Of course, I can't understand why anyone would want to go to Auckland...

I found some info on the TGB web site with pictures of engines that they produce and your right about the trannys. Don't they also do body work for one of the large brand scooter companies as well??
The reason i was asking about the engine is i'm curious about these things and like pulling stuff apart, i have also been doing some research on expansion chambers (found some good stuff out there). Do you know if the pipe on the R50X is good enough or could you get more performance using a different pipe? I was also wondring whether putting a high speed pulley and different rollers in would increase performance?
BTW Auckland isn't that bad, you just have to watch out for dicks that drive BMW's :bash:

You got yourself out of that one pretty quickly, didn't you? :sweatdrop

I managed to find a workshop manual for a TGB 303 and parts lists and drawings for the R50X if anyone is interested?
Can anyone recommend a good place (in NZ) for performance parts (variatior, pipe) for TGB scooters?
