This ad is brilliant!!

I love it...the emotion, the memories, the chocolate!

I remember listening to that song years ago and no matter where I was I'd break into the "air" drums.

Farken Great!

Who cares...the fact that we're discussing it on an internet forum suggests that it's a success.

Yep, that's THE BEST ad on TV. It's just got soul. It has nothing to do with chocolate, and that's good. They produced 1 minute 30 seconds of genius, which is better than a lot of TV shows do in a full hour.

Woah, I just found the full song with the gorilla, Four minutes of joy.

Name this song.

Seriously, you MUST watch this video. It's only 30 seconds long. It's the gorilla again, but with a difference.

YEP! I agree! Its got soul.

AJ txtd me on Sunday night saying 'did ya just see that ad????????'

DOH? What ad?

Saw it monday night and watched it, feeling totally gobsmacked.
I was in the middle of doing something with the tv on in the background and it was the music that initially caught my attention.

Stopped what I was doing and just stood stock still with my mouth agape just totally blown away.

Had the same effect on me last night.

We all know its advertising Cadbury chocolate so it rates as a total success.

PS: its now my fav ad, Telecom gorilla has been downgraded to 2nd place... hang on, is there a theme here?

I love how he hits the drums so hard.

I vaguely recall seeing the second part where he pulls off the mask, and it is Phil Collins.

I wondered about the neck bend/twist at the beginning. Phil C. used to do that, but I wondered if it was just an actor being an imitation perfectionist.

OK, bling to the first correct answer.

Where and why was this song banned in the early 1990's?

The BBC banned it during the Gulf War for having inappropriate lyrics. It was also placed on an unofficial "Do not play" list in America after 9/11 for similar reasons.

The sound on the TV is so whack! I used to have the "Face Value" album that track was on (not Genesis, BTW, Swoop - just Phil Collins on his own), and when I turned the sound up the walls used to rattle, even with the crappy stereo we had at the time. The sound on the TV version is so compressed that it sounds really anaemic.
Speaking of which, I have to donate blood this morning...

Don't care about chocolate much...

But Genesis and Phil Collins will always be the best ever (respectively) group and solo performer in my mind.

I can still remember being 16 in Paris in 1992, witnessing the awesomeness that is a Genesis on stage performance!
I still get goosebumps listening to that song, gorilla or not.

The Gorilla has way more style n class than Phil Collins could ever muster.

Eastenders theme tune. Think I spelt it wrong in my rep comment to you. Know it all too well since my Mum always wants to watch her soaps when there's something good on TV.

Heh. Judging by how hard he's hitting those things. One drums has a "ATGATT" label on it, the other has a picture of Katman.

Doesn't look that great on my new 37" Panasonic.
But (however), it gave me goosebumps watching the NoobTube version posted in this thread on my PC monitor and headphones.

Yeah but what the fuck has it got to do with chocolate?

Everyone knows that choccy is the natural diet for a gorilla - you should see the guys at work go through moros!

Apparently the gorilla did the ad for free and paid for his own drum lessons in return for a lifetime pass to umpa lumpa land.

Is it me? You guys are still talking about a guy in a gorilla suit banging the drums when I've dropped in a link to a gorgeous, scantilly clad babe doing exactly the same and you haven't mentioned her.:oi-grr:

Now some people would suspect the orientation of you lot:buggerd:

Not me though.

I KNOW you lot are wierd.:2thumbsup

And that's why I keep coming back

Now that would make for a worthy remake of Willy Wonka, rather than Johnny Depp's piss-poor attempt.

Replace the Oompa-Loompas with gorillas with rock gear.

'nuff said.

Just been chatting to our Creative Director here at work... he doesn't like the ad! Reckons it is too far removed from the product.

Buuuut we discussed it some more and he put forward the suggestion that its gonna be one of those 'creeper' ads...reckons there will be more to come... (and I don't mean the mask coming off revealing Phil LOL)
