Hey Guys,

I just have a general question or two regarding my 1993 ZXR 250 'C' re: servicing.

The bike has done 15,500kms. I purchased is at 14,500kms, so i've done bugger all since I bought it. Although in the short time i've owned it I have replaced the air filter, cam chain (which was incorrectly diagnosed and I didnt end up paying for this work) and associated parts, spark plugs, fork seals, carbs rejetted and cleaned and an oil and filter change using motul 5000. I did all this as I was unsure of the previous owners servicing on it.

My question is, what other things should I be looking out for in regular intervals on this bike? When should I clean and lube the chain (and for that matter how will I know it needs doing)? At what intervals would you replace the oil and filter on a bike like this?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Rory

500k's is the norm for cleaning and lubing, adjust when neccessary (too loose, search the forum for the guides...)

Oil every 5000 or so, use good quality motorcycle oil. I tend to do the filters everytime i do the oil (cheap insurance), but service manuals tend to say every second change or thereabouts

Enjoy :)

Pretty much what he said...

Check the chain weekly and adjust/lube as necessary - most chain manufacturers recommend to check it every 300km and lube it every second time you check it but that depends on what sort of weather etc you're riding in... and don't forget to clean the chain before you re-lube it.

Stick with your Motul oil - it's good stuff, if you're feeling rich then change the filter every time you do the oil, otherwise every second time.

The cam chain should be good for at least another 40,000km unless you're tensioner is screwed.

Take it in to a shop when/(if you still own it) at 24,000km for a bit of a tickle. Get the valve clearances done at about this point as it will help keep that motor purr-ing along like a good little screamer should.

Sounds like you're bike should be in pretty good nick for a wee while if you continue to take care of it. My only other suggestions are get either some Bridgestone BT45's (or better), or Dunlop GPR alphas and perhaps gear it down with different sprockets if you find that you aren't going above 160kmh too often.

Check and make sure all of your cables are all lubed up also. In this weather anyways! They will die fast if you dont keep em slippery My speedo cable was terrible last weekend and I thought i had kept on top of it! Dont forget your other fluids, brake fluid and coolant. Fresh is best.:Punk:

Do you have the manual for this bike? It sets out all the nessicary checks and the recommended intervals over the whole bike.

Listen to mark. He knows what happens to ZXR's if you don't maintain them.
