A Cambridge man who rode a Ducati motorcycle in heavy rain at more than 175km/h on SH1 near Tamahere told police he had been running late for work.
Wayne Marino Tocker's explanation failed to impress Ms Oettli when he appeared for sentencing yesterday after admitting a charge of recklessly operating a motor vehicle.
The court was told that on June 26 police saw Tocker travelling at 176km/h in a 100km/h zone along SH1 and overtaking a heavy vehicle in a no-passing area.
"You're now 37, I can't understand what's going through your head," Ms Oettli told Tocker.
"You're fortunate you didn't kill yourself or someone else."
Tocker, who has two previous convictions for dangerous driving, was sentenced to 80 hours' community work and disqualified from driving for 10 months.
Failed to mention that he came into the radar at over 150kmh and accelerated to 176kmh upon seeing the Police car
Also stupid the two mornings previous was white lining in the rain at over 140kmh and overtook a off-duty cop on his way to work. And he wonders why he got snapped the 3rd morning.

Get a faster bike.
Don't stop.
Problem solved.
That said - I am always impressed how small the repercussions are for such repeat offending. 80 hours community work and disqualification for 10 months (not even a year?)...

'S eytalian electrics . He wasn't trying to accelerate , he was trying to slow down. The brake light cross connected to the ICU and the harder he braked the more he accelerated.

He's a dumbass for doing it on SH1.
dont worry...there are idiots all over the world...
this post reminded me of a post i read ages ago on another site....
...here is what that post was about!
Minnesota trooper writes 205 mph speeding ticketWABASHA, Minn. (AP) — With a State Patrol airplane overhead, a Stillwater motorcyclist hit the throttle and possibly set the informal record for the fastest speeding ticket in Minnesota history: 205 mph.
On Saturday afternoon, State Patrol pilot Al Loney was flying near Wabasha, in southeastern Minnesota on the Wisconsin border, watching two motorcyclists racing along U.S. Highway 61.
When one of the riders shot forward, Loney was ready with his stopwatch. He clicked it once when the motorcycle reached a white marker on the road and again a quarter-mile later. The watch read 4.39 seconds, which Loney calculated to be 205 mph.
"I was in total disbelief," Loney told the St. Paul Pioneer Press for Tuesday's editions. "I had to double-check my watch because in 27 years I'd never seen anything move that fast."
Several law enforcement sources told the newspaper that, although no official records are kept, it was probably the fastest ticket ever written in the state.
After about three-quarters of a mile, the biker slowed to about 100 mph and let the other cycle catch up. By then Loney had radioed ahead to another state trooper, who pulled the two over soon afterward.
The State Patrol officer arrested the faster rider, 20-year-old Stillwater resident Samuel Armstrong Tilley, for reckless driving, driving without a motorcycle license — and driving 140 miles per hour over the posted speed limit of 65 mph.
A search of speeding tickets written by state troopers, who patrol most of the state's highways, between 1990 and February 2004 shows the next fastest ticket was for 150 mph in 1994 in Lake of the Woods County.
Tilley did not return calls from the newspaper to his home Monday. A working number for him could not immediately be found by The Associated Press on Tuesday.
Only a handful of exotic sports cars can reach 200 mph, but many high-performance motorcycles can top 175 mph. With minor modifications, they can hit 200 mph. Tilley was riding a Honda 1000, Loney said.
Kathy Swanson of the state Office of Traffic Safety said unless Tilley was wearing the kind of protective gear professional motorcycle racers wear, he was courting death at 200 mph.
"I'm not entirely sure what would happen if you crashed at 200 miles per hour," Swanson said. "But it wouldn't be pretty, that's for sure."

How does it work that plonkers like this survive to do pathetic sentences like that (if they get caught at all) and yet - good, down to earth, solid, Kiwi blokes who have a level head on their shoulders and their heart in the right place can get killed just doing the routine stuff they do every day... where's the justice :weird:
He's a dumbass for doing it on SH1.
And that stretch is well known for accidents, gives the cops a reason to be there. If they needed one.
What I don't get is that at 150 klicks he was screwed anyway. With his previous form there wasn't anything left to lose but he still got caught. So he is no getaway driver nor a master criminal.
A Cambridge man ..............
