Phone line down for 4 days

C23$nty mother@#$ckers. Home business phone line has been down since Tuesday morning. Vodyphoney after 4 phone calls are now telling me they expect it to be fixed on Friday. Woopdeedoopde they're only gonna credit me back for the downtime.

They're blaming bad weather and saying that lots of phones in Auckland are down (is this true?) and that the technicians are "very busy". Had to tell the idiot I wasn't in Auckland.

Seriously though...this is the 4th time in the last 2 months this line has been down and I'm well out of pocket. Is there some sort of ombudsmen I can write to?

Hey scratcha.

I work in telecommunications and if your phone line has been down completely (you can't call out and you can't be called) for more than 48 hours since you reported it the company your homeline is with should credit you for a whole month's homeline and if it is significantly more than that you should ask for good will credit on top of that.

When did you report your homeline fault? Don't take anything else for it. The fault response time for the whole country is very high at the moment because of the weather but it still doesn't let them off crediting you for the whole month's homeline.

Oh yeah, in all fairness though, vodafone is whole saleing service from telecom and they have completely no control of when your line gets fixed after they lodge the fault...

Blame telecom wholesale.

If you need a more reliable line you should consider moving to a business telephone line plan as this will give you faster response time when phone goes down (business plans are prioritised by telecom wholesale as they pay more) If you really really need the internet and phone line when your line goes down perhaps you should think about getting a second alternative internet connection with voip? My internet has been down for four days with no idea when it'll be back. Paradise Cable FWIW. Seems they can't 'turn it on' because of a 'software issue'...
My 'business' website is hosted at home.

Install my own system? Eh? How can I take control of the number coming into my PBX?
Rural...I'm about 200m from the exchange. I'm not exactly miles from Kiwi civilization either.

My second phone line (same address but with Telecon at the moment) hasn't had any problems. Bizarrely my Internet was OK too...I'm thinking they've secretly switched my ADSL to the new Telecon line. The main hassle I had was that my main published phone number (on adverts, yellow pages, business cards, etc) wasn't working. The main gripe I had was that Vodyfoney basically didn't appear to give a fuck.

Both Orcon and Telecon always managed to divert my calls when the line was down but for some reason Vodyfone cannie manage this? Still, at least I'm saving a few hundy a month with them so it's not all negative.

Ta for the 48 hour info thing though. I'll chase them up about that.

When my rural phone was down a little while ago, telecom said that they where coming to fix it next day...... when nobody came and I rang again I was told the contractor rang me before he was gonna come to check if the phone still needed fixing.. .
When he could't get anybody on the phone, he decided it must have been fixed and didn't come..... hard to believe isn't it.....
