Anyone got a massive 50mm socket I could borrow. Need it to tighten the wheel bearings on my cage. Or I might just have to do it the rangi way and dent the nut, then tap it around with a screwdriver.

Cheers mate might take you up on it but you're on the other side of town so I'll see if I can borrow one nearby first. Will you be around this weekend?

Wheel bearing locknuts on my car. Also does anyone know how tight to do the wheel bearings up. Do you just tighten till it binds then back it off a bit.

I'd let you borrow mine... but it's a brand new Powerbuilt one :p

Still shiny chromey in the box. Took advantage of the staff discount when I left Repco :p

I think you'll find one at Supercheap auto at a reasonable price. I had to get a 27mm one for the bike and it was cheap as ... crap quality but for the amount of use its going to get, cheap as

More information.

This is not a 4x4 is it? Because they are the only ''cars'' I've seen with such large locknuts.

Yeah it is - an old suzuki sj413.

Then you don't need a 50mm socket on a 3/4'' powerbar.Polygrips will do the job - just take the play out and no more.Nip the locknut up again - it doesn't hold up the sky,it just needs not to come undone.

Hey cheers for that. Won't worry with the socket then. I'll give that a crack tomorrow. Already did the screwdriver trick to undo it so I'll just try that again.

Sort of like Motu said... but I expect they're a preloaded double row spherical roller bearing - there's no play that you can remove by tightening - I cannot see them being a taper roller bearing on a driven wheel.

Cheers Motu. Polygrips, screwdriver and hammer seemed to do the trick. Took it out in the mud and about 50km on road and the wheels were still there afterward.
