best bit:
"The result is a motorbike for the real sportsman without the unpleasant noise usually produced by high performance machines"
I've never _ever_ heard a high performance machine produce a sound that could be described by "unpleasant"
also worth special note is the fact they call it high performance, but at the time that would've obviously been true.

"unpleasant noise of performance sportsbikes"
I thought that was the whole bardy point of perfomance sportsbikes (actually mine makes even more noise than power...the Honda 65 would prolly pwn it!).

Only the XB12XT is available now.
HD-A have discontinued the X locally.
Overall it will sell better but XT is too short for me.
The numbers didn't stack up real well either.
Anytime.

what no x.
have ridden both a 06 and 07, 07 with the lower seat, just about right for me @ only5'10.
the Xt looks weird with out the dirt style guard.
I can see how it should sell better being lower.
but lotsa a people don't know how good these are,
even with your full endorsement/recommendation thru KR..
So how many k's have you racked up on yours now.

best estimate is 1968. Damn thats going back........i was 6,three years away from my first bike an SL125 Honda. The old man had a ex lease 650 SS Norton in bits in the lounge which now resides in some motor museum in Auckland.

Yeah, I didn't do my career any favours when the Marketing Manager at HD told me the Ulysses has been dropped.
I still reckon the Ulysses is one of the most versatile bikes on the market. It's not the best 'anything' but it is one of the best at doing 'everything' and it's the most fun bike I've had.
You can make the XT look like an X with bolt-on stuff.
It will sell better because it fits more folks. Or so HD is counting.

But why?
its the only bike i've ridden/seen that i wouldn't change a thing on.
excepting maybe the factory race kit for more noise.
Things were a lot more simple back then. I can remeber lusting after a 2nd hand honda S90..... Still a great looking bike IMO.

The only things I've done are paint the screen and peel the stickers off. Been a serious customiser previously.
It's not a great sounding bike - considering what it 'could' sound like. It's not foul either, but I like it quiet. It's more about the sort of hijinx I get up to on it - i don't want to draw any attention to myself.
I've got this Urban ADV course that...well, the motard guys understand.

yep i've been the same,
always been something to change/mod.
but on the uly,
seat is good
bars are good
handles good
stops good
indicators don't need modding
goes very good.
shit we know how good they are,
I just gotta talk the mrs into letting me get one:soon:

"Big brakes are fitted to control the better than 55mph (90kph) speed."
Oooh I'm impressed!
"Runs away from most 63cc bikes". Now there's a glowing comparison.

I doubt many modern "sport bikes" could manage to get up into the hills like that. It seems to be in a farmers back paddock (however it might only be on the side of a road). Who knows, with the marketing of motorcycles those/these days.:laugh:

Veiled sexual innuendo is nothing new in bike ads then.
Sometimes you wonder why they bothered though.

I think both those Honda still look good.
As for ads, there is evidence to suggest that ads get more imaginative and beguiling in inverse proportion to the products they depict. BSA was a good example of that.

It says so!
Oh my god I had one!
I bought one of these off a mate when I was about 11 for $50.00
Now mine was a bit special! Modified for the farm.
We fitted a Chen Seng (or something that sounded like that) knobbly on the back. ( I remember that cost me $10!). Had to flare the rear guard with a hammer to fit it and stuck a wide motorcross handle bars on the front. Left the front road tyre on as couldn't afford another knobbly at this ridiculous price.
Wished I had read the add when I had mine (Never knew the rear shocks were adjustable!)
We had a jump on the farm and when we road over this at about 30mph the bike would bounce back up in the air on landing (No damping in front suspension) and then spear off sideways throwing the laughing captain and all pillion passengers (often more than one) off in the process.

Honda was so successful in USA in the 60's obviously everyone was crying out for them. The 65 of course was sporty compared to the stepthrough.
The CB down on the beach looks cool too, and dig that swimsuit.
Great pics Dave.

Oh the memories, my first road bike was a 1974 CB 100 in resplendent red and white, quite similar to that.
we used to race two steppies around our flat, including navigating the back steps and the side gate lol
one was a 90 tho so it had a bit of an unfair advantage off the mark
Big Dave

Mine was a CL90.
