View Full Version : Ominous feeling today

Had one of those horrible bad riding days today. Went out to westgate but decided not to go on the planned ride with mates due to weather, plans and that really bad gut feeling, the one where you just know something bad is going to happen.
Nothing gelled, gear changes were clunky, throttle control was bad, I was constantly on edge etc. Went through this little roundabout, ridiculously tight and had to slow the bike down to nearly a stop, ride through slowly and then pull over to calm the brain.
Worst mooment was going through the domain and one one of the tight 35's *i was going at 35* almost losing the front. The bike was feeling odd and I couldn't get lines right and constantly thought the rear was sliding. I went through this corner slowly and the front just went sliding. I almost shat myself. I used my boot and body to kick hold the bike up *ala supermoto* at it righted itself *to my fucking amazement*.
The bikes in the shed now, I still have that bad feeling. Nervous about getting on tomorrow now haha. I know my clipons make my bike sensitive to road bumps etc as the steering has been altered but jeez the bike felt like it was gonna slide out on every corner.
I 've never had a day like this and I hate it.

licence..whats a licence :msn-wink:
before you get started I'll finish the covo off for you:
Katman: It's your fault, you shouldn't have emotions, your a bad rider, you will die soon.
Drider: But..
Katman: NO BUTS..it's YOUR fault for being HUMAN! You should be an automoton
Drider: I was just having a bad day and wasn't getting on with the bike
Katman: There's no such thing as getting on with a bike, it's YOUR fault. Don't blame the bike, the cagers who are really nice people and don'y mean to almost kill you. You should make yourself more visible. It's YOUR Fault. Red bling awarded, I hope you get off the road before you kill someone.
Other kb'ers: Katmans *insert cracks, jokes, puns, general insults*

I was having a bad day, my mind wasn't in it and I came home. The bike slid a little. I was venting. I hope you have no children katman, cos they would probably get no sympathy at all.
Katman *to his kids* : It's YOUR fault you crashed your pushbike. Being only five isn't a factor. Get off the road before you kill someone.

Y' get days like that.
Go home, get drunk, go to bed. It'll be better once the hangover's cleared.
Commendations for listening to the premonitions. Never ignore the spidey sense.

Yea we all have good days and our bad ones.
I too found myself in a slide this morning, however it was cage induced and I was travelling in a straight line. Some lady pulled out from a side road infront of me, she actually had plenty of room to make the maneouver, but decided to stop in the middle of my lane
Anyway, put ya feet up and grab a beer cos it's Rugby night

Listen to your gut on those days where it says "stay off the bike". I'm alive this long because of doing just that.

For sure man, just take a deep breath, get home, and just chillax! Don't let it creep into your mind tomorrow when you ride, it's a new day, a new ride.
You just need to get used to those clip-ons ay, they're rather low. They would change entirely the way the bike rides and what forces occur around corners, take it easy whilst getting used to them!

good on you for not riding when you weren't comfortable about it. if you think you're going to crash you will. confidence is key - and taking a new bike out in the wet after making serious mods is asking for trouble anyway
take your time to learn the bike in the dry
(i suspect you've still got jitters from you last ride on the RG, and being afraid of something is a perfectly normal response to an injurous behaviour after a bad experience - wait for some sun and get back on the horse!)

lol at your second post DR
Always always listen to that wee small voice, I've turned back from great adventures before now just on a gut feeling. Would sommat have happened, don't know but consider this statement. " I binned it today big time, I knew sommat was wrong but I thought f#ck it and carried on anyway" :oi-grr:
Be safe.

Perhaps you're thinking too much about "getting lines right".
I'd suggest gaining a bit more experience before concerning yourself with "lines" or playing around with modifying your bike.

My bike has been set up for me, it is more comfortable now than before. I need to get used to it. And yes I do need more experience, decades and decades of it, as does any other motorcyclist. People say don't worry about lines but it does count in the wet when you have a little bike with skinny tires, wet tarmac, leaves, diesel covered tar snakes. Getting a good line so you minimise riding through rough patches is helpful. If you ever want to ride and help me iron out any faults i have *and I have many*, feel free to drop me a pm.

if you mean that in a "going as fast as possible through a corner" sort of way i can tell you now that is FAR from the truth

oh, and fyi, getting a learners licence is piss easy
weave some cones, use the brakes and change gear. pass scratchie test (for some people this is an expensive ordeal, but with enough funds they have it by the end of the day), cheat the eye test and you're sweet

GEESSS was I glad to read this one. I had one of those days last Sunday. I set out from TGA to Rotovegas got 14k's from home and just felt like shit. Nothing about me or the bike felt right. I couldn't put my finger on it at the time why I felt like I did. Anyhow I turned round went home parked up the bike and went over in the 4wd. Happy to find out others have THOSE DAYS.
Thought I was having a senior moment.

We've probably all had bad days. And had days where it all just flowed along and you put the bike away thinking "man, that's what it's all about".
Trust your gut.

I agree big time with this, if you're in "the zone" it's friggin great; if it all feels wrong, take it real easy or knock it off.
well done.
