View Full Version : How far would you go?
Am wondering if a Yamaha Scorpio Z would be any good for a long trip???...
Oh and by long trip I mean Auckland to Whangarei for example, so by some standards would be a long commute I guess.......

You can do long trips on any bike - it all comes down to your personal endurance and size of petrol tank.
I for one have made the trip to greymouth and back in one day on an old honda 250 in the pouring rain. You can do it, but it's tiring and you have to keep an eye on your fuel. It wasn't overly comfortable either as the seat was very hard.
Having made a similar trip on my bigger newer bike, it was faster and more comfortable - didn't need a stretch and a hot bath when I got home.
So conclusion - yes for some people, no for others.. all depends on you! There are people on nifty fifties doing bike rallies.
I'm sure someone here with a scorpio z would be able to comment on it's comfort and such as well as range.

Cheers for that....would be good to hear from owner operators of the bike rather than salesman giving the usual sales patter.....:niceone:

Yeah I know where ya coming from !
Will say i would be concerned with the front seals ! Though Heidi's bike has only got 3850 k on the clock thus far i saw a bit of seepage there the other day, has dryed up but could become an issue !
Motor seems to be bulletproof ! Rung out at 120 km so it all depends how ya treat it too i guess !
She finds it underpowered now she's on her restricted but then again she's riding in groups where we do tend to travel at 120 plus, so meh, for a speed limit commute it would be fine !

Have yet to have any negative feed back about them to date and yes I would own one and I'm fussy as fark re my bikes

Awwww he wasn't talking about you was he Chris ? lol
Yeah i know what ya mean there too ! lol ok this is silly, damb good bikes though aye !
Hell Chris i was a salesman for a few years too but we did the hard sell, but you are right in what yr saying, the bikes are near bulletproof (if ya ride em to what they are designed for)
Heidi's shy'd away from hers a bit these days which is a shame (just waiting out her restricted, and for me to trade the 955 up on an america for her wink:soon: lol) Little bit of leave me and i'll catch up/no i won't leave you syndrome, with a few of the group rides we go on, so she's preferring to jump on behind me lately !

My Dad went from Wellington to Hastings on a CB125. Sounds like a fun journey, ought to try it.

Of course, it would be fine. Just keep on keeping on
They are splendid little bikes.
Not sure I'd want to go further afield than New Zealand though. Not without extra waterproofing

I've done plenty of that length and more on my GN so the Scorpio should handle it.

Not even worth starting the bike really is it its just a hope skip and a jump up the road???? :D
Seriously though.... The Scorpio is a 225 single is that correct? I personally don't see any problems... I have toured NZ on CB250, and done many long trips on a GN. My other half has done many longish trips on her vtr250.
Make sure you;
Check the bike over before hand...
Secure your luggage...
Don't expect to be over taking every thing you catch up on on the open road.
Take regular breaks.
Know your fuel range
Smile, have fun and enjoy the ride...

Hmm I Travelled from Henderson Auckland to Wellington on a 1953 BSA Bantam 125cc when I was 16. Took two days lol. Bike is a year older than me so it was 17 years old at the time too. Was a cold sleep under trees in waiurou in middle of June :(
