Id be more worried about getting caught in a storm and not being able to get out lol...
Id love to stick some nobblies on the dr and take that, but 3-400kms on it would be murder.

just a quick question guys, does the cold kiwi include any dirt roads?
gunnyrob
11th July 2008, 20:18
No Gravel Roads. The cold kiwi is a "rally" in the sense that the ride is the ride there, then 2 days of having a big party near Waiouru talking bikes & drinking beer. There are competitions such as hill climbs & burn outs, but no actual car rally like stages or touring around. Check out the web site.

there is a 5km section of unsealed road in to the event, but it isn't too serious...............unless it rains heaps and turns to mud.............but that won't happen will it:innocent:

Well, the funny thing is, it had been quite warm and sunny for the last couple of years...almost felt like a bit of a bizarre take on it really!
but yes, we're definitely prepared. Almost made a fine art of it actually

Why do you need an adventure bike:confused:
He's just looking for any excuse to justify that good looking beast here:
Can you blame him? :D
Seriously though, there is no real need for an off road bike at the Cold Kiwi, unless you're hell bent on winning the hill climb competition.
With a road bike, the 5kms or so of dirt/gravel to get to the site is perfectly doable...just a matter of keeping your elbows out and your revs even :niceone:
Oh did I mention....Are we there yet????!?!???!?

Yeah harden up. Road bikes are sweet.
And the people with balls (ie us) actually ride at the cold kiwi. Involves getting shit faced, and try chasing dirt bikes up the hills... :devil2:
saying that, I may put knobblies on the motard, and trailer it down.

Yep thats the plan.
I realised the other day that from westgate we have to ride across auckland at 9am. lane splitting for 50kms with luggage, awesome!
so you guys at the autobahn may as well get comfy and get breakfast...

also, gravel was wet on way out last year ( mud ). no drama pig farmer. but pays to clean the radiator / cooling fins once you reach a servo.
