WTB: GSXR 750/1000/1100 shocks like this one ;

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/dskrasher01/cf84_1.jpg">

I am told its 1988-1995. Supposedly will fit the 250 and 650 Hyo's, so I'd like to test fit one and see how it goes.

Any condition considered, especially if I can borrow something and pay you if it works or return it. Kinda broke at the moment.. <_<

When I got it all sorted I'll publish my results, as I am sure there are lots of Hyo people wanting to know what fits etc.

I got the idea here http://www.korider.com/forum/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=8759&highlight=rear+shock

Your probably thinking of Tahana Parker. Possum on here. His Hyosung was competitive but had an Ohlins rear shock. He also had to fit upgraded brakes. He actually swapped his first one for another but it was a bit of a disaster with gearbox problems then another mech problem. After that he sold it. It wouldn't have been as good for protwin due to having to run standard brakes.

I tried something similar to this on the SV. Had the remote on the shock. It was way to soft.

Get the one off Ivan if you can as thats had the neccessary mods done to it.

I will talk to my dad who prettymuch owns it as I own the Ohlins in the bike.

But the Gixxer will probably be surplus for me now and wont be needed will get back to you ASAP can you give me eye to Eye heights so I can measure this up to make sure itl fit mate

can you give me eye to Eye heights so I can measure this up to make sure itl fit matehokay cant get to it until wednesday arvo. Will post them here. Can I just remove the weight from the bike to measure this, or will I have to drop a bolt out of the shock mounting ?

Well if its completely different you might be wasting your time with Ivans shock. Knowing its completely different is no help at all unless it is quantified. GSXR linkage is completely different to the SV too.

Possibly the reason they hyo guys selected the shock you show is becuase it has a seperate reservior. When you fit any of the other more modern gsxr shocks you have issues with the undertray and battery.

I haven't managed to get any straight answer out of anyone, except this one bloke who has done it. I don't reeeeely want it disassembled all over the garage floor - cant ride it then.. :shutup:

I guess your best bet is save the money and get something like an Ohlins at least then if it is wrong you can get Robert Taylor to set it up for you if you buy a shock through me and It dont work then youve lost out which sucks

CookMySock
16th July 2008, 18:51
Ivan, yeah at least I know the gsxr one will fit. I might have to change the spring etc.

Ok heres some dimensions (mm);

Length eye-to-eye 310
spring OD 70
eye end width 28
shackle end inside 29
shackle end length 23

some stuff that might or might not be useful:

a shock length/spring stiffness list from the sv650.org forums:

YEAR MOTORCYCLE LENGTH SPRING
===== ========= ===== =====
00-03 GSXR750 325mm 400#

01-03 GSXR600 325.5mm 325#

04 GSXR750 332.5mm 408#

04 GSXR600 332.5mm 425#

03-04 GSXR1000 332.5mm 480#

99-02 SV650 337mm 510# <<<====stock 1st gen

04 ZX10R 338mm 540#

03-04 ZX6R(636) 340mm 540# *corrected by e lo...thanks!

96-99 GSXR750 345mm 375#

97-00 GSXR600 375mm 375#

05 GSX-R 1000 332.5mm 450# <<<===added by me...spring rate from racetech.com, length from ohlins.com

I think the stiffness figures are in lbs/inch.

the racetech (http://www.racetech.com/) website also lists the stock spring rates for some bike's shocks, it might be of use.

What did you measure the eye and shackle widths with? I think 30mm is a common width (how common I don't know).

Theres also another list on the banditalley forum:
http://forums.banditalley.net/index.php?topic=7556.0

doesn't have spring rates though.

Good post erik. Wonder just how different the Hyosung is to the SV. There must be alot of people out there trying to fit other bikes shocks to the SV's. I think your right about the widths of the eyes but there are other factors to take into account. I had a late model GSXR shock and it didn't clear the swingarm on my SV. Another thing to watch is the clevise end as theres little room between the dogbones and if the clevise isn't threaded you can only fit a cut down nut.

I have a shock from an injected SV650 here and its dimensions are:

Length eye to eye 330mm
Top eye 30mm wide by 10mm hole
Bottom clevise 30mmm internal wide 40mm external wide 40mm deep 10mm metric fine.
Spring is around 75mm outside diameter and is made from 11mm stock.

Forgot to ask why DB wants to change his shock out as the type he seems to be after is off an around 20 year old bike?

I have a k4/5 gsxr 600 shock let me know if you want it.

Useful data (would have saved me from wasting my time fitting an old gsxr-600 shock many years ago as per sv.org `hot tip'...)
You also need to know the stroke length tho.

CookMySock
17th July 2008, 15:08
texmo, does it look like it might be in the ballpark ? How much do you want for it ?

GSVR, Hyosung shock is not adjustable, rebuildable, the spring rate is wayyyy too high, and in general it is a much better boat anchor than a rear shock.

I fully expect to have to change the spring. Also I have two GT250R bikes on the property as well, so it if it is too soft for the GT650R then maybe it will be better on the 250.

So basically I want to start the process or exploring this so I can have it sorted for the summer. There is not much data for they hyo suspension around. I have discovered there are Racetech bits for the forks that Robert can fit and set up, so I am looking forward to that.

update: I'd like to see if these shocks fit my Hyosung GT650R. If anyone has one to sell or loan for a week - I'd be keen to see if it fits my GT650R or my mrs GT250R.

1986-1998 GSXR1000

or ;

1985-1998 GSXR750 (and possibly as late as 2003)

many thanks,
