Hi
I was wondering if a can put any ignition coil for a 50cc 2 stroke on my Yamaha jog? Cause the standard ones are very steep in price, and was wondering if i could just buy one of the chinese coils?
Cheers Ben

Are you sure the coil is pffft. ?
CDi systems seem to die more reliably than coils IMHO...
But yes, I would expect you could use a chinese coil.

CDIs are noted for being bast*rds to check. They will have (at least) the following wires :
1) Input from Stator at high voltage - use a voltmeter to look for >100 volts AC here.
2) Pulse input from stator - this tells the CDI that the crank is 10deg BTDC and its tme for a spark. This voltage may be tricky to spot with a volt meter, its very short and only 6-12v or less.
3) Output to coil. This is about 200-300 volts, its occurs at the same time as the pulse input. Its very short, and once again hard to spot with a voltmeter.
4) Ground. Easy to check with ohm meter.
G Luck !

Thanks for that! Have just got a coil so I will slap that on and see if I have any luck. If not I will check cdi.
