Meh, my first reply got eaten by the 'puter system:confused:
But yeah, they'll be around for a bit yet.
Remember the "V8s til '98" slogan in Aussie? (or was it '88?) - and that was a while ago.
$8 a litre? pffft, I prophesise (sp?) $20 a litre.
It might take a while but it'll get there.
After all, when I was a boy it went UP to 50 cents a GALLON and that was considered a shocking price.

oops hit the submit to quick.
as for the V8s, just replace them with a world suberbike round.
i dont know how there going to carry on with the V8s to many$$$ and not enough sale's, i reckon 3-4 years and it will only consist of a few round's like bathhurst, sandown etc.

So what ever happened ta Hydrocell? Maybe we will have "Mr Fusion" by then for our vehicles.
As for the V8 Supercars, they will have to be scaled down to the GSXR1000 Powered V8 look-a-likes they had at Taupo:msn-wink:

Yeah the V12's gone.
And the supercharged V8 went back too.
Only got the mere 5ltr now.
Funny thing about the Limo - it's not that thirsty, you tend to crank the stereo, sit back and just putter around in it.
So ya wanna get in front of me?....go for it.

 my estima eats more gas than my mate's V6 comodore, so we bought an
old honda shuttle to run about in, save's us $50 a week. we only useing the people mover once a month, might have to look at the toyota prius hybrid when it get's over $3 ltr. they reckon only 4.3 ltrs per 100klm.

Who gives a rats arse?
When I bought my first car (a V8) gas was 47c a GALLON. I only earned 25 bucks a week though, so it's all relative I suppose. (Pouring all my wages into the tank back then meant I could score roughly 230 litres and I can do way better than that these days....)
I've never cared about the price of gas, almost always had a V8 in the shed and I don't see things changing in the forseeable future. We don't, however, use the beast on a daily basis, it's the wet-weather tourer generally speaking.
Today's V8's aren't that thirsty anyway.

Yeah,it's all relative. As an apprentice I used to run an International pick up that did 4 mpg....I would be out of money after the week end,and would have to supplement the Inter's fuel tank by trudging the streets with a tin and a coil of hose over my shoulder...it was a tough life we had back then y'know.
At the end of last year I took a $200 per week cut in pay....stopped a 1,000km commute and now ride a free push bike to work.Just over 6 months later it's not looking such a stupid thing to have done.

I have been chugging to work on a $25 push bike for about 8 years, I have no Idea how much I have saved in gas, but I bet its a bit.
My wife gets around in an old falcon wagon, its the perfect car, is huge so you can cram all sorts of shit in the boot, 6 seats so we can all fit in, you can get 3 carseats across the back with no worries, and in the 5 years we have owned it I have spent more on insurance than maintainance, 6 tyres (all scored off people wrecking, so like $50 each) one balljoint ($19 from bnt) a muffler bandage, regular oil and filter changes, I have serviced the trans a couple of times(I have a primo workshop at work, all the gear)a battery and a set of leads, thats it. total $960 in 5 years.
I know people who spend that on every service for their "economical" cars
we get all our jobs done on around $60 a week at current prices (thats running 4 kids about, and wife shopping/going to work.
not a bad deal, I like my gas guzzler, its as cheap as to run :)

Jeremey Clarkson reckons that to drive his GT40 on a full tank of gas to work, he'll have to fill it up on the way. I feel that the V8's will NEVER disappear, however they will soon loose their value, and become either a company car, or a every second sunday drive car.

love em XR6T's can get a shet load of power out of em, more torque down low than the V8.
i thought they got the nuts off but the studs had expanded due to heat, and couldn't get the new ones on...

3/4d a gallon. Before the Oil Crisis. Then it went up to 3/6d. Price was set by the government, by law. Like wages. Milk was 4d a quart.

Too true, we can get a 5.7 pushrod doofus to run 10.9/100k's, which in the old money is around 25-ish to the gallon. Not too greedy and that's puddling along at up to 120, but hovering more at 110-ish pulling two stiffs and a trunk-load of shite.

It's a 5 min pedal to work for me too, quicker than taking the car,I ride right to my work station. As for taking a motorcycle, forget it - I have to leave 10 minutes earlier.Being a bit security conscious I make my bike rather difficult for a thief to remove....and that makes it take me a while to get it out, then I have to put all that gear on.
All my 6 cyl cars have been more thirsty than V8's.The International and RL Bedford both did 4 mpg,but could get 15 mpg on a trip ( I used these trucks as my 4 wheel transport) and the 250 Falcon was always heavier on fuel than a 302.

a hundred km each way? crikey yes. plus you probably got back two hours of your life every day?
s'funny: petrol is a tax deductible expense for me (one of the few) yet by choice I still pushbike to work: i find it a useful de-stress mechanism, and it sort of perks me up (well a 4 degree frost will do that to you) on the way in. I am not a morning person, so anything that renders me more than semi conscious before 10 am is a good thing.
If I am ever successful in actually buying a C50 or C90 then I might use that as well.

Once I USE to drive 74km each way to work and back, it eventually dawned on me that I was sitting on my arse driving for the equivalent of at least one complete working day for each week- at my expense. (and a year of driving to and from work did the equivalent 0f the km it took to wear out one complete set of tyres)

Every week it's a different figure and a different time frame. Time for the journos to change the record.
You are being (Pre)programmed so that Gubbermints have you brainwashed each time petrol goes up. Why should these thieving zombies miss out on an increased tax take when they need/want a salary rise, which will be backdated of course. Why not outlaw smoking tomorrow due to the social costs involved in caring for those who develop symptoms from smoking, but the loss of taxation would impact on the slush fund . It's called a vested interest and could be resolved within 24 hours if the pollies had any guts or compassion. Sadly they are bereft of the aforementioned, regardless of which party they belong to. Until you apathetic New Zealanders follow overseas or Australian protests (The truckies didn't do a bad job but it needs to be escalated) then you will be bled dry. Unite or pay $8.00 a litre. Your choice and there are enough members here to make a stand if they got off their collective arses.:soon::soon::soon:

Yeah - an extreme example of it.
I've never bought into the debate on here - but I find it a very simple concept.
Normal Steering: You and the bike lean over. You lean off the bike and move weight off board.
Contersteering: You stay pretty much upright and the bike leans over.
