I've just sold the mighty DR650 :bye: It may be a decision I live to live to regret but you never know unless you experiance new things. Anyway I'm now after a Honda XRV750 Africa Twin or a Yamaha Super Tenere XTZ750 (prefer the XRV). If anybody out there know one for sale or about somebody who is ready for a change then I'm keen to hear from you.

I've got a jap bike importer looking for me as well so I'll hopefully have something in the not to distant future.

My current ride is a 50cc :scooter: so I'm keen as mustard to find a new bike.

Cheers R

Good luck with your bike hunt. Sorry can't help, but the 50cc machine . . . funny how what I've been riding for a couple of years now makes sense to so many people & riders. Cheers.

When I decided to change bikes I was thinking I should have done it earlier given you two sold your bikes. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Fingers crossed the jap importer comes though for me if I cant find one.

Cheers R

Been on there alot longer than that, .

And maybe even longer than that - there was an XLV750 tank on Trade & Exchange when it was only a paper, maybe even before TM.I was onto it real quick as my tank was toast - but it was an XRV750 tank....grrrrr.

These are both "backstops" if I get really desperate. I'm in no rush at the moment so just keeping my eyes open and waiting as patiently as possible :D

I'm in no rush at the moment

For sure: Can't be in a rush on a 50cc moped

so just keeping my eyes open and waiting as patiently as possible

Anyone want to run a sweepstake on just how long Mr Cooney can be "patient" ?

My guess is about 3 days

At this stage he's only salivating anytime "KTM" is mentioned

But I'm picking that by the end of the week he'll be begging for anything with two wheels and a motor

I give him a bit longer, about 2 and a half weeks to find a bike, then 3 days of posts while he lets the KB community talk him into it. An extra day to convince the boss...(wife)

Looks just like the one in my shed

Carry'd the boy over takaka hill on mine and he hated it, his feet kept bouncing of the foot pegs when the revs got to about 5500-6000, qiute a bit of vibration there.
Worth it though for the noise, AHHHHHHH

Noise from the bike or the boy?

The bike needs a big bore pipe though.
Those 3 little holes just don't do it.

 I give me till the end of august unless something comes up in the mean time. I'm trying as hard as possible to do my masters research i.e. there is no time for motorbikes at the moment, hell even the scooter looks fun at the moment.

Come the end of august when I submit things are going to be very different though. 3 months of being cooped up in front of a computer trying to write something sensible is going to rare its ugly head on the 1st of September :D

is a transalp or weestrom not an option?

cooneyr

is a transalp or weestrom not an option?

Where is the cool factor in either of them :D

Actually the early @'s are very similar to the tranny's in that chassis is similar and the body work can easily be transferred. The @'s are suppose to have better suspension, a couple of more ponies and are a little bigger hence fit tallies better.

A wee strom would be nice in that it is modern but the 19 inch front, exposed engine bits, cast rims and suspension don't do it for me. Suzuki could make them a whole heap more appealing to a whole heap of people I recon.

There's some stories of mods done to a weestrom in the last few Two Wheels mgs. This includes shifting the oil coller off to the side, sump guard, knobblies. One of the two bikes swapped to spoked wheels, the other kept the cast wheels. They then travel some rough stuff and survive. Would be a good bike for Aussie - comfortable and very good range.

I agree that there is something special about the Africa Twins.

I've seen those articles and the bikes are getting closer to what I would have likes them to be all along. Thing is, if your going to spend that much money you might as well get a second hand 950. That is not an option I have.

Well ya see, it seems there is a pair of bros from Canty that are going to be riding around on a pair of the same bike. Just found myself a 91 XTZ750 same colour as as El's very similar kms, good motor and gear box, just cosmetically a little untidy (nothing that cant be sorted) and it needs a suspension overhaul.

I don't actually pick it up till next week so I cant quite say I own it yet but I've agreed to buy it. :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: :2thumbsup:2thumbsup:2thumbsup

I'm on fire with the bike selling and purchasing at the moment. 36 hours from advertising to selling the DR then 1 week and 4 days till buying a new bike! Anybody want me to do some wheeling and dealing for them
