View Full Version : Magnets around fuel line

When I took the bike apart I found a strange yellow thing clipped around the fuel line between the tank and the carberators.

It had magnets in it, and it seemed to be some sort of tuning thing as it said 'Comtune - power, spec response or something like that on it.

Anyway I thought it was some sort of gimmick so I haven't put it back on the bike. Its lying around somewhere in the garage.

Anyone know what it is or what its supposed to do?

Oh dear.

You must put it back on right away, or the poles of your bike's flux capacitor will reverse and the fuel molecules will enter a zero-friction state, causing ripples in the sub-ether and potentially turning the frame into a giant Tesla coil.

Yes it's for suckers who believe advertising!!Repco etc. sell them to fools who think that it will increase their fuel efficiency. The best place to put it is either in your rubbish bin or on trademe to suck some other fool in!!!

The magnet will attract rust particles in the fuel line and hopefully prevent them from getting into you carbs. I suspect the idea is to disconnect the fuel line at the carbs, remove the magnets and then flush the line to get rid of the particles.

An inline fuelfilter is better I would think.

Also, you can get some rust flakes out of your tank using a magnet on a string...

But the tank is plastic so there's bugger all rust getting into the fuel from there!

In that case I suspect there's not much point to the magnets.

Maybe to keep ze germans out? Dunno

Weren't they pioneered on the Spagthorpe Husky - something with needing to know where North was? Or was it for influencing the coriolis force carburators it had?....

Removing them will reduce fuel mileage by 28%, reduce acceleration by 38% and dramatically reduce hp by 133%.

Are you sure it's worth it?

You could sell it on Tard me...

It's the two-wheel equivalent of the Brock Energy Polariser.

"The next award went to an Australian sporting icon. In 1986, Peter Brock, Australia's premier touring car driver, became involved in promoting an "energy polariser" which, he alleged, when attached to the firewall of a car, improved its performance in all fields. The device was not connected to any of the vehicle systems and supposedly worked by application of mysterious "energies unknown to science". Along with motoring journals, the Skeptics conducted an investigation of the device and found that there was no basis to the claims made. The fallout from this affair saw Brock severing his relationship with General Motors, his long time sponsors and with a number of his colleagues. The publicity associated with the case saw the device withdrawn from sale."

Just goes to show that being able to punt a vehicle quickly around a racetrack is no indicator of general intelligence.
