Whats the deal? I've never heard of them before...

They claim to be "NEW ZEALAND MOTORCYCLE SAFETY CONSULTANTS"... and also a non-profit organisation.

Yet at the same time they are selling e-books among other sources of information for US$15 a pop and sometimes more.

If their goal was for safer motorcyclists would it not be in their best interests to be well known, and also be providing their information free of charge? A professional website looking website wouldn't do them any harm either. In fact Hitcher will be filling his pants if he has a read through their website, the level of english on the site is not what I'd expect from a website expecting to be taken seriously.

Anyone had dealings with them? I'm finding it hard to take them seriously.

Yup, doesnt seem to be anyone else involved - well not directly mentioned on the site... a one man army perhaps?

One man crusade would be more appropriate. IIRC he didn't exactly make a lot of friends here on KB.

He's a good friend of Katman I think.

Don't write his setup off just because he's a pompous arse, some of his material is pretty good. I bought his material on emergency braking a good few years back and that was pretty good. How much of it is his own work is debateable as I think James deuce had a fair bit to do with that particular publication.

Some of you clowns give me the fuckin' shits.

You bag me because you believe I do nothing to back up the message I put across here and you still bag someone who's actually committed to doing something tangible to try and improve the standard of motorcycling.

Are you scared of the competition Stranger?

Who pissed in your cornflakes?
R6_kid didn't bag him, no one did prior to your post.

No, quite happy to see some competition out there thanks, the more the better. I wouldn't mind in the slightest if there was no demand for RRRS and I got my Sundays back to do my own shit thanks.

Feel free to start any time you like.

Why hasn't anyone got the fucken clue that we're meant to strap training wheels and cushions to our bikes yet? Idiots!

Doh! That's a cage, or even a trike.
Can get training wheels for little ones' offroad bikes, though.
Heard of Alan Kirk, name used to come up regularly as he was/is fighting for some cause or another. Can't quite remember what though, maybe licencing?
As for the RRRS courses, I should do another one sometime in the next year or so, I remember some of the stuff, but have probably forgotten more than I remember (problem with being old).

Maybe another thought.....there are quite a few advantages to be had in most countries running a non profit organisation.....
Tax excemptions, limited liability, donations are tax deductable etc, just to name a few....

Just a thought.....:dodge:

The only thing I bagged was the approach, surely someone claiming to represent the safety interests of NZ motorcyclists would be well known and in touch with those they stand to represent.

Thanks for the commercials guys and now back to the program.

Yes that's Allan Kirk. I have brought one of his books (on cornering) and read it cover to cover. It left me a little unsatisfied, covered many of the points but in the end I felt it could have been done better. Having said that, if it were free (I paid for mine), it would be a good 'additional' read.

It read like a plagerised mish mass of statements and I got the feeling it was a skim report of thoughts rather than a real understanding. Bits that would have been helpful with pictures didn't have them and then there were pictures that didn't add anything. Tough to satisfy everyone I know and as i said good additional reading.

R6_kid

Yep, that was the feeling I got from the website too. It all feels a bit like an elite group of 'safe' riders that you need to buy in to.

The information seems to be of good value, it's just they way he/they have gone about 'presenting' it.

FWIW i could poo out a website better than that in under an hour - free of charge.

I’m with Blackbird here. Many moons ago I did some training with what was NZMCA when Alan was here in welly. The training was well ahead of it’s time & still would make good sense today.

This is a man who had really thought about things & came up with some decent course material, some of which I know has been plagiarised & used to this day (this was mid-late 80s).

However with that was an ego or personality that tended to inflame many people. I saw it often back then. What he is doing now material-wise I’m not really up with, maybe it has degraded or old age has set in.

I’m sure he is mega safe on a bike, - doubt he has ridden much for years.

But - I’m very thankful of those old courses & what I learnt from my involvement.
Like many things, take what you can from the info. For every ‘expert’ there will be many who claim their brand of safety is the best & others are wrong or dangerous.

Educate & decide for yourself.

Funny I was thinking about Allan last week, he used to proclaim himself as a handwriting profiling expert (something in the news clicked in a memory) + was trying to make a crust as a writer so the grammar issues are funny.

Sorry Katman, that alter-ego quip made me laugh. You’re ok by me, but I do see some similarity in your ability to inflame people.

One of the articles Alan gave me years ago was a piece (from a mag) on personal responsibility. Did change the way I thought.
