Luckily if they can't chase in a rental car they wouldn't need to U-turn either.

I'm certified - but I'm not sure what for...

Certified or certifiable? Sanity's overrated anyway - the most interesting and loveable people I've known have tended to be a wee bit mad

They are sort of stretching the truth when they say that its the only case. We defended a ticket a year or so ago in Nelson as the cop was not certified on stalker in mobile mode and won. I guess as we defended the ticket, we never got a refund so they are telling the truth...!

I wonder who many thousand tickets the guy has given in 12 years.

And just 'cos he doesn't have a bit of paper he's not allowed to write out tickets - despite the experience of writing many of them?

Whoops, gee, sounds like a KB rant - you know - "I've been riding for years so why do I need a bit of paper"

Why?
'Cos the law says both of the above are required to 'have a bit of paper'.

This sounds like beuracracy gone mad. How much is there to know about pointin a laser and reading numbers? Cripes.

Well as Scumdog pointed out, it's not what you may or may not know - its whether you have the correct 'bit of paper' authorising you to do it - and that works both ways, it doesn't matter how good a rider you are, if you don't have a licence you shouldn't be riding on the road!
You could apply that same reasoning to tasers or guns...how much is there to know about pointing a gun or taser and pulling a trigger?
I don't think many of us would be comfortable with cops using either of those items without the correct training and authorisation. :)

Good point. I can concede to that logic...
