Caltex is doing a 'Get 0.15c/l off on 0.10c/l off supermarket vouchers' promotion, so as I'm coming up to empty I pull in, thinking I'm onto a good thing here!

NOT EVEN:nono: As I'm filling up (nearly full) I notice the price is 0.12c dearer than across the road! WTF????

I'll now be using those 0.10c/l off vouchers at BP where at least I know I will be making 'real' savings!

Thanks for pointing that out - with prices going up like they have been I'm sometimes a bit slow to catch on (leaving myself wide open here .......:dodge:)

Will be checking next time, for sure! :eek5:

Buying my groceries at Countdown, I always get 15c off my fuel but just have to make sure I got enough in the tank to make it to the next Gull or Shell :D One does manage with enough thought...

ohh I think the commerce commission would be really really interested in that .. they prosecute for false advertising .. & for them to raise their prices so they end up remaining the same is against our laws .. give them a call :niceone:

Its NOT false advertising... Caltex charge, more so they can give bigger discounts.... simple business strategy. Guess what...IT WORKS !!!

I noticed those that take vouchers up here tend to charge more. Unfortunately we don't have much of a choice so we meekly keep going there.

There is no such thing as a fu***n motor cycle. I don't care what it takes to fill up my "motorcycle", although I shop at the cheapest s/s at the time so yes we do care about our babies. I hope this was a piss take:devil2:

Eh.. I have a mate who purely wanted to get a motorbike due to petrol costs. So he thought a CBRR 250 would do nicely. And all he did was commute on the thing.. I feel sorry for it.

Personally, i'm not too bothered about the fuel prices right now.. My 125 has gone from $5 a tank to $6 a tank. And my 250 has gone from $16 to $20 a tank.. not exactly breaking the bank when I see what the cages have to pay.

But yes.. technically the gas station can raise to the prices to match the coupons, as long as there is a saving of some sort (even 2c). Those coupons are just one big scam anyway.. you're either spending more money at the supermarket, or more money at the gas station, either way they win.

Thats all I bought a bike for initially - but I got the bug. For some it floats their boat for others it don't - who gives a shit.....

Hey I used to work on checkouts at Woolworths and they told us if a customer didn't want the voucher we'd have to cross out the barcode and give it back to the supermarket when we finished our shift!

The savings are generally meagre anyway. Even at $0.04/L you only save $2 on a 50L fill. You might say that adds up but I kinda find it too much trouble to keep track of who discounts what where and when. Besides... the car is for the mrs to worry about. On my 14L tank I would have to be a real miser to look for discount dockets!

Absolutely, but the other day we pull in with 3 bikes to fill, which is often happening in our family atm. Also, when I fill the 4wd, that gets a bit ouchy! I don't bother with the 0.04c/l dockets but do keep the 0.10c/l ones...

I just think that having a huge sign out front saying save up to 0.15c/l on supermarket fuel dockets when their price is considerably higher than the rest, is actually false advertising!

Any rate, I'm not going to stew about it! Just a heads up really for those that do use them.

Absolutely right, you know there is money in it when the supermarkets put in their own petrol pumps, I mean saving a few cents per fill is nothing ( ok well I still use the vouchers but wont spend more to get the bigger discount )
As for ya mate getting a bike to save on gas, tell him he's wrong, price of tires way more, sprockets, chain, running costs are way high. Unless he's doing big kms and buying Chinese tires, flipping his sprockets over to get more wear out of them he aint saving much.

My GSX1400, post exhaust modifications, gets, on average, 13.8km/L.

I do about 30,000km per year on it.

That's 2,174L, or, at current gas prices, about $4,780.

If I rode Devil's KTM 690 instead, which gets 20km/L, those 30,000km would use 1,500L, costing $3,300.

That's $1,400 a year I'm paying for the privilege of an extra three cylinders and 710 cubic centimetres.

Perhaps I should start using supermarket vouchers.

This is caused by the behaviour of the petrol stations here in New Zealand. I was amazed that they all changed price on the same day as back in the UK I had got used to trying 4 or 5 different petrol stations before filling up.

The fuel companies in New Zealand have got the public trained to expect lots of changes to the price in short spaces of time and to expect that every station in an area will charge the same.

Many businesses load their prices to make the discounts sound more appealing.

Life is too short not to ride the bike you really enjoy riding.

Besides, we are helping the oil barons line their luxury yachts with gold... such a worthy cause!

After running around town with a 4cent discount docket in my hot hand all the time then working out what the savings really worked out to be... now I dont bother unless it is a 10 cent docket... then i fill everything up on the one transaction... truth be knowen, im still not saving bugger all.

Thats true - @ 0.10/L on a 50 L fill its only $5. Not really enough to make me shop around all day.

Like Toaster says - Lifes too short! The price is what the price is and everyone is suffering it so Fill up and ride on :)

I allways thought the mobil prom spend $5 in store save 0.04c a litre was good ment you had to buy at least 125L before you would actually start to save anything. wonder how many people fell for that one. Not so bad if you were actually going to buy something in store.

Griffin
20th July 2008, 09:18
I think these sort of promotions are only any good for those that take the time to bargain hunt 'every' little thing they buy in order to save as much money as possible. I know a person who will go to all the main supermarkets and compare prices, then go and buy the cheapest of each item she wants from the supermarket that has it at the cheapest price. In some cases only saving a few cents... to me, its not worth the time or effort.

Quoted for truth bro.

Fuck the budgetary whinging. I'd only spend the money on booze and hookers in any case.

The mealy-mouthed greenies of the world can have the keys to my 1400 when they take them from my cold, dead hands.

Given that the two stations are across the road from each other - I cannot think of this being anything other than a mistake.

There is no way a station could stay in business being 12c /ltr more expensive than someone 30 yards away - Nobody would go there.

Where we have this near our house they are normally the two cheapest station in the area. Competitions a good thing.

Considering the amount of money "saved" using coupons... you'll be "eating" at home for a while yet. If you do "save" any money... buy her flowers, the chance of "customer satatisfaction" will be greater / safer with her...

About the same as gas for a round trip between Auckland and Hawkes Bay.

:msn-wink:

Edit: OK, I just got told off for that post.

Perhaps you should just 'innocently' leave your browser open at www.newzealandgirls.co.nz and see if any of the ads take your missus's fancy...
