The second post on this thread will work as an index of where you can get stuff (thing, price, location kinda thing) and will be made up of things we KNOW we can get.
So lets get to it!

The Motovation sliders ( for the 600 ) will fit the 250. And they have a good reputation.

Umm carbon fibre hugger and all the carbon bits on my bike I cant help sorry. Wish I could but I don't no where to get them from, Braided lines are $70 for the front $50 for rear from cycle treads ( fitted your self )

Im getting the rx1 set of gauges from www.koso.com ( not sure if that is correct website ) but pm toebug and ask him.

Still to fit the renthal ultra lows and sliders will post pics when fitted, Also Im scraping the ignition barrel and throwing that so I can fit my headlight better. Will be using electronic remote starter with the alarm.

Future plans anyway

Mods on bike so far -

Carbon - engine covers
Carbon - Hugger

Rear end aftermarket ( think custom made as I havnt found anything similar )

Full stainless exhaust twin banzai cans

Gsx-r K7 headlights, shortened wiring harness about 30cm ( what a pain in the ass )

Oxford gold carbon bar ends $80 - cycle treads.

Will be painting calipers, and engine bolts ect , gold anodized pegs ect ect the rest all future stuff.

all depends on $$$$ lol

i have sites that supply parts... but it's in japan ( here where i live lolz) and i dont think that google language tools can translate the site... but i'll give it anyway it's all in japs though...

http://www.goobikeparts.com/cgi-bin/full_search/search.cgi?idxname=gbp_all&query=hornet+250&image.x=0&image.y=0

then you'll see on the left side part of the site... has a search bar... on the lower part of that is the parts list... like muffles handle bars carbon things etc... hope you guys could surf in it...the prices all come's in red color text... so you could convert it on your currency too...

this is all i could give from now... happy surfing...

p.s. if the clickable text wont work... the lowest part of the site... has parts too but by brand and it won't specify if it's for a 250 or what kind of cc and what kind of bike... so hope this could help though (thinking a lot if it could help) lolz...

if i may recall does kevlar means carbon fiber??? lolz... that's different types of fiber... kevlar's are much more stronger (for what i know about and please correct me if im wrong)... lolz... anyway if you want some parts from here... i am greatfully help but it will be a matter of trust lolz... just like i wanted to say... this jap site don't send outside japan... i mean ship outside... so the only way to buy this parts is from me... (like i said matter of trust..) "send cash and i will buy the parts and send it back to you" type of process... that's all i can do...

so if anyone got some question's about it i am willing to answer...

p.s. the price does not include the shipment fee's lolz...
i dont know how many days and how much it would cost yah guys... lolz

happy surfing if i got crashed on another site about parts i'll let you know asap...

Okay 1st things the motovation sliders have a great rep. and delivered to my door for sub - $100NZD ;-)
And where really easy to fit
the shipping took 5 days which is pretty darn good :first: I have now fitted these only trouble i had is because these are for the 600 the bolts are to long. easily fixed by going out and getting your own, ( waitemata hydrolics ) less than $10.

I have also re-sprayed my brakes ( bleeding the fronts again was a pain in the ass pumps stuff all fluid through compared to a car,) and polished up every little bit of alloy .

Ill be fitting my new handle bars some times this week, I want to get some new grips and mirrors at the same time so if any one can recommend some please do.

Cheers Simon aka - nomis

Cool banana's! Any chance of pic's?
Couldn't you just cut the bolts down an inch if you had a hacksaw handy?

depends on the thread length up the shank, etc etc etc... so long as you do a reasonable job, a hacksaw shorten usually works fine. just pays to touch the end to a linisher to tidy it up a bit.

Ultra Bright Light Bulb - $20 (anyone confirm?) -

Just go to Repco etc and get a Phillips Blue 4000k bulb - super bright - plugs straight in and makes a huge difference to night time riding with a better spread and the blue light penetrates much further . About $40.

ooohhh! sounds sweet. Defiantly will get one of those next time i need a bulb.
There's a problem with these: they look brighter, but unfortunately they aren't actually giving you more visibility. It's all to do with the human eye not responding well to the blue end of the spectrum, so the light looks bright (dazzles your eyes), but doesn't actually help you see any better.
However, what Crash99 said about "a better spread" may be right.
The best thing to do is maybe upgrade to a slightly higher wattage H4 bulb, and make sure your wiring is up to spec (heavy enough wires, proper relay wired to the battery via a fuse, and clean contacts everywhere so nothing fries).
I've done this with a few bikes now, and it makes a big difference, provided the headlight refelctor is a good shape. F'rinstance, a VF500 I used to have had better lighting on a 130/80W (yes I *do* know that's illegal) bulb than the very same bulb in a Firestorm. (In fact, in the Firestorm, the contacts on the bulb had slight corrosion and the plug got a bit scorched. Oops....)

crash99
14th November 2008, 16:29
Yeah not so sure vifferman, cos I definitely see things clearer from behind the handlebars (and I do a lot of night riding). The "blue" aspect seems to show things clearer than old orangey style. I can't comment on the "dazzle" bit cos I'm not looking into my headlight very often !
It definitely has a better spread too (this is a huge part of the bulbs effectiveness).
I was going to up the wattage but the guy in the shop talked me out of it, saying that with the extra vibration on a bike and the heat caused by the higer rating of the bulb it wouldn't last very long. Sounded sensible to me, but to be honest I haven't tried it.

Hello to all the hornet riders out there. I have just joined the swarm with my own hornet 250. I'm after some modding help.

I have just finished installing an aftermarket lock barrel and alarm and I'm spinning up some crash knobs from acetyl on my lathe this weekend. What I really need help with is the exhaust.

Does anyone have recommendations, I want it to sound better without being deafening. More go would be awesome but it is pretty quick already.

Exhaust dont do much for perfoemance, when you start stuffing around with the exhaust you get probs with it running lean, rich. I had to get mine tuned .. and jetted ... then i found it waaaayyyyyy to loud ( full stainless twin can's ) so had to get it silenced sounds fine now its just right however the tuning is out again , now even when I take the silencers out its still not right. meh..

but I think ( prove me wrong someone ) I have the most modded 250 hornet around , you can do anything to them

Hi Guys, thanks for the exhaust info. I will see what virgin can sort me out with in the new year.

One more question...when I turn the key the headlight and front indicators come on and stay on, except when indicating, then the indicating side works normally but the front non-indicating side stays on. Is this normal for a hornet 250?

Thanks

Timmy

Yes mate, thats perfectly normal for the hornet - bike has been designed that way. They are called running lights and give you better exposure during day and night.

They have kinda grown on me and I kinda like them.

hi, thanks for that, I thought it was fine but I was installing a new lock barrel last night and only noticed afterwards that the indicators were permenantly on.

cheers

Tim, if you do feel the need to get your bike jetted up and running perfectly once you have selected the exhaust and air filter combination that you like, these guys (http://www.triplezeecycles.co.nz/Index.html) could be the go. I'm getting Betty dyno'd and remapped there next week (BMC filter going in first to match the TBR can).

Good to hear moar Hornets are being blinged out and more importantly, being ridden!

Hornet Swarm rides usually occur outside the Auckland City Library at 6.30pm .. we usually stand around, pose, talk shite whilst waiting for any randoms to turn up ... it's not actually till 7ish that we have decided what we are going to do!

Mmmm Hornets ...

Woohoo, getting a Hornet at the end of the week, Already got an aftermarket exhaust, going to be getting crash knobs, dual headlights and clip on bars, (cos I'm more comfortable in the leaning forward position).

Can't wait to get it cos I have been bikeless for a month tomorrow, will be a nice change from my hyosung :woohoo:

I dont mind doing all these mods to a 250 cos I dont plan on upgrading any time soon, well not in the next 3 years at least, i just wont be able to afford it, so why not make my 250 as enjoyable as possible!!!

Simon
7th December 2009, 14:20

Hiflyer
7th December 2009, 14:45
Bah, requires more muscle to use clip ons! haha and I had a sports injury (hockey ball in the back) so its easier on my back to be leaning forward, weird ay? I think the sitting up position puts weight on my spine or some crap, the doc told me but leaning forward = way more enjoyable rides

Instead of clip-ons do a Google for 'Lavarda Jota Bars' or 'Jota bars' Multi adjustable from a full clip-on position to an upright standard position and anywhere in between. There are a few companies making them and plenty selling them so look around - about 65 pounds is a good price. A direct copy of the Laverda Jota handlebars from the 70's superbike (you young ones do some research here, they were the 'real mans' bike to own when I was a young one!).

I've finished making the windshield using a free windshield from a Suzuki RF900.
Also modified are some brackets that retrofit over the seat handle, to take a 12inch venture rack.
Heated hand grips and hand shrouds.
Fitted a 42 tooth sprocket on the rear for long touring rides, I did have a 46 tooth sprocket but found it needed to sit on 10k for 100km/h. Now she sits at 8k doing 100km/h.
The Box on the back needs a redesign as it's a bit of sail.
Fitted with an alarm (but not working as I'm modifying the alarm to trigger with mercury switch)

Mods to come:
Chain lube system (thinking hiding a can with a long 3mm hose down to the rear sprocket)
Rear wheel guard (to stop all the road grime getting all over the shock)

Hope this inspires, I'm planning on making 20 or so brackets for racks if anyone is interested.

Euan.
