How many riders ride with a back brace. I bought one just before Christmas. Found it not only safer in the event of a bin but the brace supported my back and I did not tire so easily as when riding without it.

Back protector??
I do.
Was a little annoying at first, but have gotten used to it.
Much more lower back support.

Yep' sure do.
Don't have much choise,if I don't wear it I don't do nothing the next day.
I actualy have two,an ordinary one and a heavy duty one that I wear if I'm going on a long trip or riding dirt.
I think their a pain in the arse. <_<

Are they more suited to sportsbike riders, than cruiser riders..?
What do they cost?
It was mentioned above - heavier one to the lighter one - what is the difference in what they do and also costs?

Thanks in advance.

Suit anybody that wants to use em'.
I wear them due to a back injury.
My heavy duty one supports my whole back and rib cage, the standard one, just the lower back.
They range in price from around $50 to $2-300 top of the line back protector/brace.
Mine were payed for by ACC an I can't remember what they cost.
What I do know is that had I been wearing one when I stuffed my back I wouldn't need one.

I got my first back protector about 12 years ago and have worn one ever since, cutting it down to fit inside my Spidi when I moved to textile gear, then got the genuine Spidi job.Now I also have a mesh armour suit complete with back protector and kidney belt.I got my first kidney belt in about 1972,and wore it off road and on long trips always. They are like the seat belt in a car for me now - it's what you do when you ride a bike.

And as I mentioned in the other thread - the CE standard for back armour is EN1621-2,if you buy new make sure you have that standard.

Thanks for the answer back to me... much appreciated...

I do have something in my jacket at the back... and shoulders...

But today I was out riding in my leather jacket.... so wondering whether I would need one for when I do wear the leather jacket.

I don't bother to use mine when commuting, but always when I am touring. I seldom ever stop in between refuelling.

Whats in your jacket is just a bit of foam, a back protector generally has a hard shell (ie plastic)

I ALWAYS WEAR ONE!!! never go without, feels weird not to wear one now....

I do, but I only wear it for long journeys as my bike jacket that I normally use for daily commuting has an integral back protector.

Mines a really cool black one that I also intend on using it for any fancy dress parties that I may, one day, get invited to. I'll pretend I'm an Afro Caribbean Teenage Hero Mutant Turtle.

Hey! me too - like exactly the same thing, and use it exactly the same way! - except that I went to the Halloween party as Skeletor (cos I have full armor too!)

I wear my back protector most of the time now.
Not wanting to dribble on but if I wasn't wearing mine on the 2'nd Im pretty sure I wouldn't be here to tell the tale. Theres a nasty white line across the back of my leathers that points to hard impact with a white object-ie a post.

I wear a Fox MX kidneybelt with a hardshell rear plate, elasticated sides & velcro front. It is excellent as a brace on longer rides, but I don't bother for short jaunts.

I always wear one for all the above reason, back bones and roads dont mix, I dont want to gring my backbone to nothin!!
another awesome benifit not mentioned above is in the winter they keep your back nice and warm

There's one in the back of my jacket, better'n nothing, but I plan to get one to fit in the pocket provided for the purpose, or else a strap-on one.

Now that my wife's seen them being worn by TS and co, I think she wouldn't object to us buying them, plus some elbow, shoulder, and knee armour for her (her leathers have only foam).

Mine is part of my spyke jacket and it does make for a improved ride. However I probably would not bother if I did not have the jacket.

if you mean a back protector, that slips into your jacket -then yep, if you mean a back protector that straps onto the body, like a corrset, then nope.

I use mine if i'm going for a ride, but if i'm just heading into town then i wont.

I used to think the one in my jacket was good enough, but get some one to hit you in the back the a sledge hammer and see if you think it'll help you when you hit a post at 100kmh??

my textile jacket has integral armour and a back piece of foam.

If I am going to Akaroa for coffee I wear my downhill mtbing body armour under my old leather jacket.

My problem is I desperately need some decent leather pants (or leathers) with proper knee armour and hip and sacrum (sp?) lower back thingy protection.

thats why I will be in Woods tomorrow.... looking for pants.
