Was just outside having a smoke and heard this bird crash land and start flapping around on the ground. Maha got the trusty torch out and we spy a Tui in some distress on the ground. I went to pick it up, it was on its back flaping around. Finally managed to pick it up and put in a box in the hotwater cupboard. Ring the local vet who tells me I am speshhhal as not too many people can claim to have a Tui in their hotwater cupboard! He will keep!

His diagnosis, a pissed Tui, bring it down and I will look after it for you. We took it down to his clinic, and yes diagnosis confrimed this little sucker is off his chops for sure...LOL. He will ring us when the bird is sober, to come collect it and release back where we found it. Apparently they are territorial.

Small towns rock! Here is a vet that will care for a bird for free, make bad jokes about it and me  and have music playing in his clinic to entice me back to the band!

Just as well you got to master the skill and patience of watching something so slow when you were young, otherwise you would get so frustrated now watching your brother ride. :scooter:

Who knows, though the vet says there is alot of old fruit lying around, hope he meant fruit you can eat, hate to think about old, fermented drag queens littering the place...LOL . Probably the over ripe tangelos in our back yard to be fair.

I remember running like hell down our at the time 300m driveway to turn off the irrigation I had forgotten about one morning in my summer dressing gown. It was a satin number and did not stay closed. What can I say, I needed to turn the water off.

Got back to the house to a phone message that asked if I was attempting to be some sort of super hero! I forgot the green houses were able to be seen by the neighbours :o

Strange but true...the contents of the seed pods of FLAX bushes ferment in the sun. Often the culprit to tuis getting pissed. Have seen it down this way a few times.

For those in a big town (i.e. Auckland). You can take sick/injured birds to Sylvia Durrant, 1/13 Montgomery Ave, Rothesay Bay. 0-9-478 8819

She will take birds and care for them for free, but best you make a donation! She does far too much work for the community and can always use money for food for the birds.

Term came from the olde square rigged sailing ships , they used to have a figure ( usually a head ) right up front on the bow of the boat. Twas the place to be to drop the turds in the sea

Just got off the phone from the Vet. The Tui is ready to come home and be released. Will pick it up this afternoon and set it free. Will take a pic too and post it up.

Mom

Further to above. As the weather is most certainly going to be total and absolute shite here for the next couple of days at least, the vet does not want the Tui released today. Instead, he has authorised us to take it home (it is illegal to cage a native bird apparently) with instructions on feeding etc, until the weather clears.

He says it will sing! I hope it does not wake when most Tui's do up here. That would be about half an hour before sunrise...LOL

Keep you all posted.

Twas the fermented stuff that got it in trouble in the first place...LOL

It likes banana, I mash it a bit for him and some honey water. Friggen dumb thing when I fed it this afternoon. I am putting the food and lolly water at one end so he can get to the floor and eat. No, this silly thing was hanging upside down on the perch to eat and drink

Today was the day, we have blue skies, no wind or rain and it is time for the little Tui to be let go!

Took the cage outside, wow it got really excited! Opened the cage door and stood back. It sat there for a moment then heads up and flew strainght out of the cage and up in to the Totara's at the back of the section.

Great feeling!

Hope it stays off the old tangelos!
