Lowlife parasite thieves

My wife called me when she got home last night to tell me that out house had been broken into. Again.

The couldn't defeat the deadlocks or break the door frame (not after they tried last time and I inset a bit of 3mm thick sheet alloy into the frame) so they hammered a chisel or screwdriver through a window frame, snapping the locks off on the inside.

They then went through the house with enough detail to find where the spare keys were kept (inside a small plastic box, inside a drawer). They have ended up with a spare set for the house and both cars. How nice. They took all my wife's jewellery (with the exception of her engagement and wedding rings, which she was wearing), my wife's laptop, TV, home theatre system, a couple of digital cameras, two mobile phones, a portable hard drive (with a complete backup of my main PC, which they didn't touch), my old HJC helmet and a few other bits and bobs. They even took a pair of sneakers out of the wardrobe, as if to see if they fitted. At least both our cats were OK.

We have insurance, but it's not the point. There's the hassle of getting everything sorted out and most importantly, the fact that my wife is now scared to stay in our house especially with me being in Australia at the moment.

The Police will be round on Monday, not that it'll do any good. The fuckwits that decided they could help themselves to our possessions will get away scott free, unless they're monumentally dumb. (And no, I'm not bashing the cops - what can they do other than dust for fingerprints and see if they get a match.)

Many many thanks to Gixser for dropping everything at a moment's notice, and going round to help my wife make the house secure again and clear up. Cheers dude!

Finger print cop that cam to visit after a forced entry said - waste of time with more locks and making it harder for them to get in.

The house is right on White Swan Road, and there's a bus stop literally outside our front door. After smashing the locks on one of the front windows, they climbed through. Must have been in full sight of everyone passing...

I'm fully expecting her to tell me tonight that the house has been broken into again and more things taken. One of the cars is in the garage downstairs, and they have the only key to it. Her car is also possibly at home today; they took the spare key but not the alarm fob.

We'll have to see what happens.

On the plus side though, we were going to pack the house up and move everything over to Brisbane within four months or so. I'm already here; she was just staying in Auckland to get some pretty serious dental work done (first installment - ten impacted teeth removed - happening as I type) under Southern Cross. This has prompted her to think about coming over much earlier and then just going back to NZ and staying with her parents when she gets the second installment done in about three months time. I suppose we have less stuff to shift over too...

My big fear is home invasion, living alone now and I have to try remember to check every room when I get home so I know no one is in the house already, put the chains on the door and leave a light on over night... Paranoid? Me? ... LOL Just causious. Must get to know the neighbours though.

Sorry to hear, there is nothing much worse than having your house broken into.
Worse thing is they are said to usually come back in a month or so just after you get a hole load of new stuff. Not sure what else to say on how to protect the house though.
I hope they catch the scum, not that it does much good these days.

We've had a few problems because of the type of cars (and bikes!) parked up the driveway... we've had a few scratches on the paint of the cars near the handles... lucky for them they didn't find out what kind of alarms we have installed :banana:

I was on the phone to my mum while I was in Norway and she started screaming because someone had snuck up the driveway and was trying to steal our outdoor furniture but didn't realise she was awake.. she got up behind him and screamed "What the f**k do you think you're doing?!" and he sh!t himself :clap: But there was 4 against my mum, she ran up to wake my Dad up and he got them away. She buggered her knee after it too after running around because she'd only just been out of hospital after a full knee reconstruction. Hope they don't come back coz big scary Dad aint here no more....

Unsurprisingly she didn't see them last night in the dark, but found them this morning on her way out.

Well, some good news. My wife just phoned to tell me that, in addition to her operation going well, she found all the spare keys. Looks like the thieves had taken them downstairs to try the locks on the basement door, and when they didn't fit, simply dumped them in a flower-bed.

Unsurprisingly she didn't see them last night in the dark, but found them this morning on her way out.

I sorry to hear it mate - it is such a nasty feeling! I hope the insurance company will be good to you.

I know exactly where you're coming from - last week some scumbag stole my girlfriends backpack from her office at Chch hospital.

That wouldn't be so bad except it contained: her set of keys for house and car, her wallet, her cellphone, various bits and pieces AND her passport since we're currently in the process of applying for residency.

Needless to say, after I heard I was in the car inside 5 minutes on the phone to our neighbour - our address was on plenty of the forms. I was driving swiftly across town kinda hoping to catch the fuckers while they attempted to increase their bounty. Fortunately nothing had happened - but we've had our door locks and the immobiliser recoded.

Now we just need to wait for VISA cards and passport (2 months, yay!) - insurance will cover some of it. Cheeky insurance companies though - you get you bag stolen and you'll need to make 3 claims: 1 under contents for your stuff, 1 under car to have immobiliser and locks recoded and 1 under house to have the locks recoded. It's not on!

It's not a catastrophe - but what a hassle and then add that feeling of invaded privacy. I'd fucking fuck the fucking fuckers up if I got my hands on them. :angry2:

Glad to hear it - it's easy to over-estimate such low-life scum! On the other hand - they would have had to be pretty dumb to come back to the scene of crime on such short notice.

That is possibly the worst feeling in the world! I had it the opposite way after we were burgled, I could not leave the house, as I was told by the SOCO (Scene Of Crime Officer) they would come back while I was out!

Sorry we dont live closer mate, I would happily go and stay for a few nights to offer moral support.

We were burgled while we were asleep in bed! Not a good feeling at all I can assure you. We were lucky though, they did not come and wake us up for our PIN numbers! Thinking about it still gives me the complete shits! This house is Fort Knox like now.

In our extended whanau, we are up to 10 thefts of various sorts - cars mainly but cars etc as well. Anything not nailed down. and if it is they will rip it up anyway...
Surprised the police turned up - never have for us in the past, so I don't bother reporting them unless it is an insurance job, and then only to get a complaint number.
Making your house a free-fire zone is the only deterrent to these scum
