hi ive just finished doing some work on my 1981 gsx250L it was going fine the other day it has a new battery in it, it also has spark, compression and fuel it will turn over hard out but not start it then cut out completly the starter button now does nothing (no noises at all) but i have lights and everything else works could you please help?

Hi Shadyhorse, welcome to KB.

The starter button engages a large relay (solenoid) next to the starter motor, which provides the large current required to crank your bike over.

Looking at teh starter motor, there is a large cable from the starter motor to the the solenoid, and another large cable from the solenoid to the battery.

You will also find one or less often two smaller cables from the solenoid.

Press the starter.

Can you hear the solenoid click ?

If you can't, check fuses. Check Kill switch. Check sidestand switch and neutral light switch - these may inhibit your bike from cranking.

If you can hear the solenoid click, then... solenoid may be faulty, starter motor may be faulty, or you have a dodgy cable to starter motor or battery.

WITH CARE... Bike in Neutral... lil fingers clear...get a screw driver and use it to short the two big terminals. Don't short anything to earth !.

If bike cranks OK, the solenoid is faulty.

There may be sparks and shit, plus you may blow the end off the screwdriver, so use TENG tools with a 100% replacement warranty. Alternatively, borrow the screwdriver from someone else's tool box.
