Hey Guys,
Sorry, but this needs to be a quick one as I’m fixing by bike yet again then need to head off for another race.
Last weekend I raced at Mosport in the Parts Canada Superbike Double Header in the SV Cup class. I had a nightmare weekend in terms of bike problems.
I qualified second on the fantastically fast Mosport Track (one of the best layouts in North America, but the surface isn’t that great). It turned out that the pole setter’s (ex top Pro 600 rider Robert Busby) bike was under weight, therefore I was awarded pole, which was great as I really didn’t get much track time. It was a hard track to learn as there were many wide open blind corners going over hill tops…. Scary!!!
Yet again I had to strip the bike apart and rebuild it after a low side crash which was caused by worn bearings in the swingarm and wheel (I’ve been plagued with bike issues this year….I’ll get a brand new bike next year for sure!!). This took me most of the night before race one and up until half an hour before my race, so I was in no mental shape to perform well.
It was a great race and there were three of us hammering around at the lap record pace. We were all together until 2nd place past first and lost his draft, causing him to slow down. I then made my move into second, but this led to a full on battle with second place changing almost every corner. This also meant that first place cleared off.
I made a last corner move, but ran wide and got third by less than a bike length…. I then found out I had a jump start penalty for repositioning my bike under starters orders, but this was only 5 seconds, so I was still in third…… Forth was way off, and a good point to note is that he is a regular US race winner (The SV pace is way off in the US apparently).
Anyway, to cut a long story short, it rained the next day and I managed a convincing win, so I’m 24 points ahead in the national series…… I’ll try and post some pictures in the next week or so…..
Cheers
JJ
PS: Also, before the race I got to test a GSXR1000 Superbike for RMP Racing (They’re one of Canada’s top ten teams)…. It was a blast. I definitely can see myself on one of those things!!! They seem so much easier to ride than a SV.
PS: Thanks to Suzuki Canada, Pro 6 Cycle, Clarington Cycle, Accelerated Technologies, Bickle Tyre Warmers and RMP Racing.
