My wife and I were walking along the beach (Army Bay - Shakespears Park - Whangaparaoa) and saw two of these little creatures, no longer than 5 cm but beautifully decorated. Only problem is we cannot find out exactly what they are!
Does anyone have any ideas?

Nudibranches are pretty cool when you're diving - at least they don't fuck off in a hurry and you can take your time admiring them. Some of them are beautifully coloured like the ones you just found - others are rather dull sausage looking things just lying on the bottom.
Pretty - but not nearly as much fun as an octopus :D

That's a sea slug. Be careful, it is extremely poisonous.

First time I heard the word nudibranch (http://www.naturalsciences.org/education/deepsea/images/nudibranch.jpg) being used at the Dive Club I thought someone was taking the piss Monty Python stile.
Name for they exposed (Nudi-) lung bronchial (-branch). So many cool looking different one. Have see a few at Poor Nights.

Ask Raj, apparently in Northern India these are used by gay men for oral pleasure. Go on, ask him - he knows all about them...:wari:
